Bungo Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 When I look at it it seems to be sukashi. The book says no. I defer to the book until the author recants. You all may be right though. John I think it could be one of those errata in book.......................I don't see any gold copper inlay in that tsuba or this is a lame attempt on my part to cross the 9th lap. milt the ronin Quote
sencho Posted January 14, 2007 Author Report Posted January 14, 2007 What a mind blowing peice of workmanship.... bottom right quarter.... did things go a little astray there? Or is that intentional or just the photo? Cheers Quote

Sergio Bastos Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 this pattern is very common in the Japanese woodblock prints!!! Quote
Ed Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 Looks like you guys are slowing down, here's a little something to keep it going. Quote
sencho Posted January 18, 2007 Author Report Posted January 18, 2007 Ed... that's great... beautiful sayagata pattern.... Is there any pictures of the entire koshirae? I take it that is the end of the saya? Cheers Quote
sencho Posted January 18, 2007 Author Report Posted January 18, 2007 Heres some more.... just bought this sword bag.... was going to buy it anyway, but on closer inspection..... Then I had to buy it!!! Now I am seeing this pattern everywhere, but more syagata than the raimon. Cheers!! Quote
sencho Posted January 18, 2007 Author Report Posted January 18, 2007 Dammit did it again.... not a vain attempt to hit 10!!! here are the pics Cheers Quote
Ed Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 Yes, that is a photo of the kojiri or saya butt cap. Below is a link if you want to see the whole koshirae. Unfortunately it is missing the Kurigata and Uragawara. I have been looking for those and a matching tsuba, kozuka for several years to no avail. Nice material on that sword bag. http://yakiba.com/wak_jumyo.htm Quote
Bungo Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 the kozuka ............... note the pattern on the curtain. There's quite a bit of details when zoomed in. milt the ronin Quote
sencho Posted January 30, 2007 Author Report Posted January 30, 2007 heh heh heh... Milt You just can't stop.... Nice Koz.... 10 here we come..... Cheers Quote
Bungo Posted January 31, 2007 Report Posted January 31, 2007 have you guys notice how the digital camera " changed " the appearance of the nanako ground ? The close up is " true " while the pic of the whole koz shows " distortion "................ must be the same effect of wearing strips on TV. p.s. a blatant attempt to push for the 10th lap. milt the record breaking ronin Quote
sencho Posted February 2, 2007 Author Report Posted February 2, 2007 This one was at the Ronin Gallery.... described as "chinese design" Quote

sencho Posted February 6, 2007 Author Report Posted February 6, 2007 Thaks to Vitali's ebay listings we may reach 10 Milt. Another Tsuba..... this must have looked beautiful when all the fretwork showed through around the two ana.... not sure it is full sayagata, but fretwork non the less... I take it the whole tsuba was plain with the detail around the center?? Cheers Quote
John A Stuart Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 Hi All, Here is a fuchi, kashira and kojiri set I may purchase if the price maintains it'self. Showa period, that shows the basket weave pattern from which the sayagata pattern derived. John Quote
