Munetsugu Posted February 23, 2021 Report Posted February 23, 2021 Good evening! Another one of my recent acquisitions I bought this from a good friend I've met local to me. Signed: Yasutaka A Lovely quality Yasutaka shibuichi carved and inlayed tsuba featuring birds (Japanese sparrow?), bamboo, river and flowers (Japanese Peony?). I believe around the 18th-19thC Would be interested to hear if anyone has any information on the Smith or tsuba. Cheers Quote

Barrie B Posted February 24, 2021 Report Posted February 24, 2021 Hi Chuck, Very nice Tsuba. Haynes only has two listed that sign like your man (H 11272.0 & H 11273.0) and the latter has a Kao - that I think resembles yours.. Not exact, but probably to be expected maybe, from a sketch. But then again, most Kao take on a similar form. No much info on either of them, so I doubt anyone would go to the trouble of forging it..? But you never know..! Haynes states the other (H 11272.0) is Hamano Yasutaka and died ca. 1800 - with an unrecorded Kao. Barrie. Quote
Kurikata Posted February 24, 2021 Report Posted February 24, 2021 From Joly's SHOSANKENSU, 3 Yasutaka are listed.. Your tsuba kakihan looks similar to Nukugawa Yasutaka as mentioned by Barrie. Anyway, lovely tsuba Quote
Hoshi Posted February 24, 2021 Report Posted February 24, 2021 Lovely. Reminds me of an Ishiguro design by Masaaki if I am not mistaken. Quote
