Hanito Posted January 4, 2021 Report Posted January 4, 2021 I am new to nihonto and know I do not have much experience and I would like some help in translating the NBTHK papers and to make sure they match the wakizashi. Thank you. Quote
SteveM Posted January 4, 2021 Report Posted January 4, 2021 The papers are not from NBTHK. They are from another organization: Tōken kenkyū rengō kai (Sword Research Association). I don't know anything about them. Their name may have appeared once or twice on this forum, so you might find out something about them if you search on this forum. Beware of the low-end mumei wakizashi market. It's a minefield. Quote
Hanito Posted January 4, 2021 Author Report Posted January 4, 2021 Okay got it, I am not experienced to know that but I've heard this about the wakizashi's. My budget is $2,500 for a papered katana, or wakizashi that's sharp and in good polish. I know I am rushing and would do better to save up for a proper nihonto but this is not possible at the time or future. My main intention is to have a beautiful object that can be admired and passed down generations. It does not have to be a show piece just one that is in good shape and will hold its value. Trying to fit that criteria is quite hard. Thanks for your help. Quote
Brian Posted January 4, 2021 Report Posted January 4, 2021 $2500 for a decent wakizashi should be do-able. maybe even papered and in polish. Post a WTB in that section and also check out some of our featured dealers and also sellers in the For Sale section. For a little bit more, look at this: https://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/34319-sweet-wakizashi-by-yokoyama-sukekane/ 2 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted January 4, 2021 Report Posted January 4, 2021 The paperwork does seem to be for this wakizashi, both the registration card and the attestation which latter, though Mumei, suggests Takai Nobuyoshi, (Echizen no Kami). looks like a nice package at first glance. Newly wrapped tsuka? Quote
Wolfmanreid Posted January 4, 2021 Report Posted January 4, 2021 Seems rather dubious that the seller doesn’t have a photo of the bare nakago to go with the papers. Quote
Hanito Posted January 4, 2021 Author Report Posted January 4, 2021 Here's some photos some that show the bare nakago. Quote
Hanito Posted January 4, 2021 Author Report Posted January 4, 2021 Thanks for all the replies. Like I said earlier I am not too experienced but I did notice handle looks newly wrapped which doesn't bother me and might even be a plus to me. I like this package with the blade and it includes both the koshirae and the shirasaya in the package for $2500. Quote
Hoshi Posted January 4, 2021 Report Posted January 4, 2021 Run away. For that budget you can get something nice, papered and polished. I suggest looking on the forum. Quote
Hanito Posted January 5, 2021 Author Report Posted January 5, 2021 So I am hearing this is a no go for $2400? I want the blade to be in great condition and have usable Koshirae Quote
