Larry H Posted October 2, 2020 Report Posted October 2, 2020 Hello all. I have in my possession what I believe to be a army officers sword. I have several pics and can provide more. It belongs to a friend and he was wondering what these types of swords sell for. I'm sure it's very subjective, Quote
Brian Posted October 2, 2020 Report Posted October 2, 2020 Attachments don't seem to have worked. Try edit your post instead of creating a new one, and try adding the images again, making sure they aren't huge. 1 Quote
Larry H Posted October 3, 2020 Author Report Posted October 3, 2020 Thank you, Brian, I'll resize them. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted October 3, 2020 Report Posted October 3, 2020 Larry I'm not sure where the gremlins are getting into your photos but most of them are not showing up. I suggest checking the photos are less than 2mb each and waiting until they are fully uploaded in the add photo screen. From the two that have come through it looks like you have a very nice sword, the Tsuba has the Suya Shoten stamp on it, Suya made high quality goods for the military, especially sword mounts. If you take a cotton tip and clean out all of the gunk it will look like this: 1 Quote
SteveM Posted October 3, 2020 Report Posted October 3, 2020 I saw some of them earlier - the sword looked like an excellent example of an Emura sword (with matching numbers on nakago and tsuba). 1 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted October 3, 2020 Report Posted October 3, 2020 Ah it was Emura then, one of his earlier works it seems. 1 Quote
Larry H Posted October 3, 2020 Author Report Posted October 3, 2020 Thank you for the advise, I'll keep working in it. 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted October 6, 2020 Report Posted October 6, 2020 Yes, a very nice Type 98 Japanese officer gunto! 1 Quote
Larry H Posted October 7, 2020 Author Report Posted October 7, 2020 Thank you, Bruce! This is my first authentic sword. I was able to acquire it from a friend and am enjoying, thanks to SteveM, researching Emura and other great smiths work. Quote
Larry H Posted October 7, 2020 Author Report Posted October 7, 2020 I also wanted to thank SteveM and John for their comments and information. Thanks to SteveM I was able to do my research, very interesting history on the production of these swords. I've yet to find an example of an Emura with bo-hi. 1 Quote
