This is a picture of tsukamaki where the menuki are replaced with knots.

Does anyone know what type of tsukamaki this is and how it is done ?

Merci.

Shikagawa-tsumami-maki 鹿革撮み巻 with yuidama 結玉, often seen on Tenshō-koshirae 天正拵.

Thank you Guido, your knowledge is impressive.

Any info on how it is done, i would love to have a tsuka made like that.

Could it be for less weight or just a preferred look. Or as Tom said poor mans menuki.

Greg

I think it has more to do with a reaction on the previous elaborate koshirae style, tensho koshirae made as simple as possible.

Not that impressive: I just found out that 結玉 is actually pronounced "musubidama:-? . Anyhow, I don't really know how it's done, maybe this photo helps:

Dear All.

An earlier thread on this subject including some detailed PDFs from Jussi, it includes some detail on musubidama  and this mock up,

However  I do not think that is what Hector illustrates in hi OP.  That looks more like the end knot from a tsuka.

Haven't worked it out yet.........

All the best.
