Ragefish21 Posted February 2, 2020 Report Posted February 2, 2020 Came across what is clearly damascus steel, but the signature on the tang and the gold signature above where the habaki should be has me confused. Quote
Stephen Posted February 2, 2020 Report Posted February 2, 2020 Because its Chinese copy of Japanese sword. Check links for fake swords. 1 Quote

Ragefish21 Posted February 2, 2020 Author Report Posted February 2, 2020 Luckily i found it in our home after we bought it Quote
16k Posted February 2, 2020 Report Posted February 2, 2020 Good for you because it’s clearly a fake, and not one of the best! 1 Quote
Ragefish21 Posted February 2, 2020 Author Report Posted February 2, 2020 Lol well it came with the house so I'll keep it around and maybe test its "durability" for the hell of it. Quote
Stephen Posted February 2, 2020 Report Posted February 2, 2020 Get a safe handle it can break and kill or mane a on looker including yourself! 1 Quote
16k Posted February 2, 2020 Report Posted February 2, 2020 Stephen’s right. Those Chinese Damascus replica (that one is an older one, so not meeting today’s standards) can be very dangerous. A bad layer weld and it will shatter. Might fly everywhere around, and junk or not, a metal blade is dangerous. 1 Quote
Ragefish21 Posted February 2, 2020 Author Report Posted February 2, 2020 Oh hell, I didnt mean actually swinging it around. I was just going to some random tests on it while its safely secured. If I dont know what to expect I dont take chances 1 Quote
ChrisW Posted February 2, 2020 Report Posted February 2, 2020 I wouldn't. A poorly made damascus item is more a danger to the user than its intended target. Metal shrapnel! I would carefully dispose of the thing. Quote
Ragefish21 Posted February 2, 2020 Author Report Posted February 2, 2020 Listen guys, Im not going to go all (Forged in fire) on this thing. Im simply placing it in a vice and taking a file to it and test its flexibility. I'm not going to be bashing it or playing around like a child. I came here for an answer on this blade and I got it and I appreciate everyone's input. Quote
