IJASWORDS Posted September 29, 2019 Report Posted September 29, 2019 Hi (what is your name ?), gunto means army sword in Japanese. It is not a gunto. This is at best a civilian mounted sword that "may" have been taken to war. Do you know any history of this sword ? Quote
samusamu Posted September 29, 2019 Author Report Posted September 29, 2019 halo Mr ijaswords my name is marselo what a diffrent of gunto and civilian sword? this from grandfather of my wife. him a soldier of deutch Quote
Stephen Posted September 29, 2019 Report Posted September 29, 2019 (edited) Pretty close bet with the leather cover n push button release makes it a military sword aka gunto. Family sword taken to war. Blade is very interesting. Shame some one tried adding a mei. Edited September 29, 2019 by Stephen 1 Quote
ROKUJURO Posted September 29, 2019 Report Posted September 29, 2019 The "MEI" could be a 27 standing on its head. Quote
samusamu Posted September 29, 2019 Author Report Posted September 29, 2019 thank you Mr stephen blade is old ya and why him bring the family sword not a new one blade? thank you Mr roku juro why see on mei must upside down? and what mean? Quote
Ray Singer Posted September 29, 2019 Report Posted September 29, 2019 As I wrote to you directly some time back, it is not a mei. They are numbers. 2 7 1 Quote
Ray Singer Posted September 29, 2019 Report Posted September 29, 2019 I suggested earlier that they are assembly numbers. 1 Quote

tbonesullivan Posted September 30, 2019 Report Posted September 30, 2019 Are you able to get off the Habaki? That usually protects the blade from a lot of the oxidation, and removing it can provide information about the blade. The transition from blade to tang also can show whether it has been cut down.
