TheGermanBastard Posted July 24, 2019 Report Posted July 24, 2019 I would appreciate thoughts on age and school of this Tsuba. Thank you Quote
kissakai Posted July 24, 2019 Report Posted July 24, 2019 This is mine (Boxes) which is similar After asking around no-one was confident to give me an attribution so I wish you luck Sorry not a very good image Grev Quote
TheGermanBastard Posted July 24, 2019 Author Report Posted July 24, 2019 Hello Grev, thank you very much! Indeed very similar! What is your take on the Tsuba? While it must not be connected, the Fuchi/Kashira on teh associated Koshirae seem to be Hizen Quote
kissakai Posted July 24, 2019 Report Posted July 24, 2019 Much better eople have had a look and all are undecided With these later pieces it gets so much harder Quote
TheGermanBastard Posted July 24, 2019 Author Report Posted July 24, 2019 Hello Grev, so you think it is fist of all a late Edo periode pieces? Did Robert Haynes also give you his oppinion on yours? Quote
JohnTo Posted July 25, 2019 Report Posted July 25, 2019 I just came across a similar example by chance in an old catalogue I just picked up (Sotherbys, London, RB Caldwell Collection, 30 March 1994, lot 16). Described as rare Kamakura-Bori tsuba, Muromachi period (16thC). Of circular form, pierced with a writing box design around the hitsu-ana, the plate carved in typical style with clouds and waves on a punched ground, Unsigned, 7.9 cm. Sold for £800. Looks identical to the one Grev posted, especially around the nagako ana (quality of pics withstanding), so probably the same one. Regards, John 1 Quote
TheGermanBastard Posted July 25, 2019 Author Report Posted July 25, 2019 Hello John, that is great information! Thank you very much for sharing it. Quote
kissakai Posted July 25, 2019 Report Posted July 25, 2019 John Can you add an image and sizes? Or anyone else who may have the catalogue Quote
Henry Wilson Posted July 26, 2019 Report Posted July 26, 2019 It makes me think Kamakura-bori but it would normally have a "Chinese" theme like sansui 山水 etc. Quote
TheGermanBastard Posted July 26, 2019 Author Report Posted July 26, 2019 So, could it be assumed Muromachi periode Kamakura-bori for Grevs and my Tsuba? Thank you Quote
JohnTo Posted July 26, 2019 Report Posted July 26, 2019 Grev, Just photographed the page from the catalogue. Catalogue says it was 7.9 cm. I remember this auction as I bought my first serious tsuba lot there, Lot, 14, its the tosho fan above yours. Still have it. Regards John Quote
TheGermanBastard Posted July 26, 2019 Author Report Posted July 26, 2019 Does anybody know who the appraiser was? Quote
TheGermanBastard Posted July 31, 2019 Author Report Posted July 31, 2019 Can this topic lease be deleted. Thank you Quote
TheGermanBastard Posted July 31, 2019 Author Report Posted July 31, 2019 I am setting my priorieties and decided to no longer engage in message board discussions in general not limited to the NMB Quote
Bazza Posted July 31, 2019 Report Posted July 31, 2019 Well, Luis, sorry to see you go, but it is IMHO your loss. This thread should stay because it is an important contribution to knowledge no matter what you may think. So, if you no longer intend to engage in message boards in general, may I ask what is your strategy to continue on in study and acquiring Nihonto knowledge?? Don't tell me, you collect matchbox labels and stamps as well???!!! BaZZa. 1 Quote
