ww2colorado Posted May 25, 2019 Report Posted May 25, 2019 Guys any thoughts on this unsigned wakizashi? Seller says it has no mei and is a ww2 bringback item. Any opinions would be appreciated. Seller states its mounts would be 1900s era.not too sure Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted May 25, 2019 Report Posted May 25, 2019 Unless it's very cheap and you're willing to have it polished I would avoid it. Quote
ww2colorado Posted May 25, 2019 Author Report Posted May 25, 2019 Looked like a mix of parts thrown together for wartime use. They do not look too special Quote
Dave R Posted May 26, 2019 Report Posted May 26, 2019 If it wasn't for the cherry blossom menuki, I would say that this was one of those swords that tend to get lumped together as "Satsuma Rebellion" swords, aka Okashi-To. All the other parts are fairly old and not Gunto. The Ito looks right, but "economical" or has shrunk. Quote
Surfson Posted May 27, 2019 Report Posted May 27, 2019 My take on this one is that a family sword was mounted for WWII by replacing the samurai tsuka with a WWII tsuka. The tsuba, though in poor shape, looks like Bushu Ito or Choshu work and was once a very nice piece. The saya is not very visible, so it's not possible to say whether it was the original one or was refitted with a new saya during wartime. I would not assume that the blade is junk. In fact, it may be nice; we would just need more photos to speculate more. Quote
