Tom Darling Posted May 23, 2019 Report Posted May 23, 2019 Would appreciate assistance of date and etc. Has four makugi-anas ( X ) marked areas Tom D. Quote
ROKUJURO Posted May 23, 2019 Report Posted May 23, 2019 Tom,BIZEN OSAFUNE TADAMITSU: it looks like ANSEI period (1854), so SHIN-SHINTO. Four MEKUGI-ANA (no plural in Japanese nouns!) is quite special for such a "young" blade. Quote
Nobody Posted May 23, 2019 Report Posted May 23, 2019 There are two dates on the nakago. 安政四年丁巳八月日 (Ansei 4 nen, Hinoto-Mi, 8 gatsu hi) – A day in the 8th month of 1857 文明五年八月日 (Bunmei 5 nen, 8 gatsu hi) – A day in the 8th month of 1473 1 Quote
ROKUJURO Posted May 23, 2019 Report Posted May 23, 2019 Thankfully, MORIYAMA-SAN has provided the second date, which could mean that the blade is an UTSUSHI-MONO of a middle MUROMACHI TADAMITSU blade.Might be interesting to see the whole blade in case you have pictures. Quote
Nobody Posted May 23, 2019 Report Posted May 23, 2019 The Mei; 應需渡邊勘助源壽 – Accepting the order from Watanabe Kansuke Motohisa (reading?). 備州長舩忠光作 – Made by Tadamitsu in Osafune of Bishu. 於大X冨田Y仁彫 – Engraved by Tomita Y仁 at 大X. 1 Quote
Nobody Posted May 24, 2019 Report Posted May 24, 2019 I guess that the katana was made in 1473, and the engraving was added in 1857. Quote
Tom Darling Posted May 26, 2019 Author Report Posted May 26, 2019 Thank you Jean and Moriyama san, very much for your help in my query. Tom D. Quote
