IJASWORDS Posted September 24, 2018 Report Posted September 24, 2018 Do any collectors know the origin and use of this "mini" tsuba, photographed against the regular size example. They are obviously both pierced, but the mini one has no provision for a securing spring clip or leather strap. 1 Quote
Dave R Posted September 25, 2018 Report Posted September 25, 2018 Possibly for the "dress" version" of the Gunto, rather than the combat one. Sometimes referred to as being piquet weight swords. An interesting thread linked below. http://www.warrelics.eu/forum/Japanese-militaria/light-weight-shingunto-686745/ 1 Quote
IJASWORDS Posted September 25, 2018 Author Report Posted September 25, 2018 Dave, as usual you nailed it! Yes off my "light weight" 98 officer sword. And thanks for the link, I haven't come across too many in my years of collecting. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted September 25, 2018 Report Posted September 25, 2018 How very interesting, remarkable to see that dress Shin Gunto outside of a book. I don't know about mini but this one is quite small compared to any other pierced Tsuba I have & has the 9 o'clock position latch. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted September 25, 2018 Report Posted September 25, 2018 Yes, my kudos too, to David! I really have a hard time finding old posts like that! John, you're tsuba with the round holes is interesting. I can't say I've ever seen one that way, other than the one I have, and I've always thought mine was a poor fake. But yours looks quite legit. Mine must be the faker's attempt at copying the style you have there. Quote
