Rich S Posted May 17, 2021 Report Posted May 17, 2021 Very nice. Have you been able to determine which Sukesada forged it?? Rich 1 Quote
Swords Posted May 17, 2021 Report Posted May 17, 2021 Not really since they were mass produced and those signatures were common It’s not a gimei because they would have used the long signature rather short I believe the mounts were custom made sharkskin in Pristine condition probably worth 2000 alone as was told ! Its got a nice hamon And polish so at least that much is good Because there were so many signatures being signed each one should be considered by there own merit All in all it’s a five hundred year old sword with history I’m considering selling it But not sure what price Steve Quote
robinalexander Posted May 18, 2021 Report Posted May 18, 2021 Hi Steve,, Don't wish to digress from thread but are you saying that, as a general rule, a short signature (say two kanji) for any smith is less likely to be gimei than a longer detailed one? Rob Quote
Rich S Posted May 18, 2021 Report Posted May 18, 2021 Rob IMHO, no. Any mei can be faked (gimei). Rich Quote
robinalexander Posted May 19, 2021 Report Posted May 19, 2021 Tks Rich, happy to accept your HO. Rob Quote
