drb 1643 Posted September 11, 2018 Report Posted September 11, 2018 Hi all, here's another sword I picked up in WWII army gunto mounts. Can someone here please help me with the translation? Thank you very much, Tom Quote
Ray Singer Posted September 11, 2018 Report Posted September 11, 2018 Agree, Masatoshi. Mei is placed unusually high up the nakago. Quote
drb 1643 Posted September 11, 2018 Author Report Posted September 11, 2018 Thank you very much Ray and Neil. I was able to get the Masa, but could not figure out the second character. I'm a neophyte to this study, but I did realize the unusual placement of the mei. In your opinion does this placement signify anything? Thank you again, Tom Quote
Ray Singer Posted September 11, 2018 Report Posted September 11, 2018 Tom, the position and treatment of the mei would give me a bit of concern for the authenticity of this signature. The mei is rather fresh and late. Given that, it would make sense to first look into Masatoshi of shinshinto, which does not at first blush appear to be a match: http://www.e-sword.jp/wakisashi/1010-2026.htm Here are a few other options to investigate for 正利. https://nihontoclub.com/view/smiths/meisearch?type=All&mei_op=contains&mei=%E6%AD%A3%E5%88%A9 Quote

drb 1643 Posted September 12, 2018 Author Report Posted September 12, 2018 Thank you both Ray and Stephen. Yes Ray, I agree that the mei is not a match. I sincerely appreciate your input. Tom Quote
