lonely panet Posted August 7, 2018 Report Posted August 7, 2018 Hi guys, i noticed this sword, iv had a kotani yasunori in the past and handled a few yasukuni-to. but I would like a 2nd opinion on this one. I really have some serious doubts. the hamon looks off for the school and iv never seen a yasukuni with bohi https://www.ebay.com/itm/Japanese-WWll-Army-officers-sword-Yasukunito-Yasunori-mon-mint-27-1-4/232876241865?hash=item36388173c9:g:bIsAAOSw-f5bZ5-2 Quote
Ed Harbulak Posted August 7, 2018 Report Posted August 7, 2018 This is the third Yasukunito this seller has offered in the last couple of weeks. He had a Yasunobu a Yasuyoshi and now a Yasunori. Yasukuni blades are not that common so either he bought someone's collection or something else is going on. The two that already sold went for just under $4,100 which rather surprised me. Quote

A quick look through Tom Kishida's The Yasukuni Swords, didn't find any mention of hi, but I may have missed it. The book does include photos of two examples that have horimono (one dated 1933, the other 1940) however, one is a tanto, and the other I'm guessing is tanto or wakizashi (not katana-length nakago). There are also several katana-length blades that have hi, but they're all post-war. The hamon on the eBay blade looks a little wide to me, and the sori a little shallow; but on a 1935 blade, maybe they had yet to solidify the standard? Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted August 7, 2018 Report Posted August 7, 2018 This is a rare blade this seller hasn't had "polished". Mei looks very chippy for Yasukuni-To. Quote
