vajo Posted April 19, 2018 Report Posted April 19, 2018 Any ideas about this blade? Age and school? I think Edo 19th century. Its mumei. I can't see a yasurime pattern. The Hamon looks very dark, acid etched? Quote
Ray Singer Posted April 19, 2018 Report Posted April 19, 2018 Yes, looks late (ie. Shinshinto or later) in a very poor quality amateur "polish". Quote
vajo Posted April 19, 2018 Author Report Posted April 19, 2018 Ray did you think a polish would make sense? Quote
Ray Singer Posted April 19, 2018 Report Posted April 19, 2018 I don't think it would have sense financially to invest in restoring this blade. 2 Quote
Geraint Posted April 19, 2018 Report Posted April 19, 2018 Dear Chris. Is it just me or are the machi uneven? If so another sign of low quality and late production. All the best. Quote
vajo Posted April 20, 2018 Author Report Posted April 20, 2018 Geraint you are right. I think that too. I was unsure about that offer because it was cheap. But it is cheap because of its bad quality. Thanks for your opinion. Best Chris Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted April 20, 2018 Report Posted April 20, 2018 Probably Edo/Meiji period tourist piece. Quote
vajo Posted April 20, 2018 Author Report Posted April 20, 2018 Tourist piece, i think not. I will take a real look on this in the afternoon. It seems the guy who sell it live not far from my home. The blade looks to massive for a tourist tanto with carved bones koshirae. Quote
TheGermanBastard Posted April 20, 2018 Report Posted April 20, 2018 Late Edo Periode Yoroi Doshi... probably a bit reshaped / having lost some meat. There are some grind marks near the cutting edge and the boshi is to thin in my oppinion. I a great piece? No. Does it make sense to get polished? No. Should you buy it? Depends on the price tag, I think it is not worth more than 250 USD so you would only be tempeted to buy it if priced very cheap. Quote
vajo Posted April 20, 2018 Author Report Posted April 20, 2018 I was visiting that tanto. Nothing to speak about.. Quote
0331_usmc Posted April 21, 2018 Report Posted April 21, 2018 Looks like about a 800-1000 grit sandpaper polish Quote
vajo Posted April 24, 2018 Author Report Posted April 24, 2018 Hi Christian. 320 EUR but nothing fits together. Tsuba was a rough silver plated copper one. Tsuka was broken. Ugly fittings and a crude saya. The blade was flawless. The hamon very dark. Quote
TheGermanBastard Posted April 24, 2018 Report Posted April 24, 2018 The Asking Price was probably okay but nothing one would really want to buy I suppose Quote
