acoyauh Posted March 20, 2018 Report Posted March 20, 2018 Hello. I have this tsuba that came from Japan with an Edo sword, though I believe it to be showa. Please, can someone help me with the transliteration of the mei? With a little luck maybe I can find something about the author and clarify the age... Thank you! Quote
ROKUJURO Posted March 20, 2018 Report Posted March 20, 2018 Jean Paul, the MEI says: Made in the People's republic of China! And the age is probably about five years or so. You can clearly see that the MEI is not cut with a chisel, but stamped/die-cast like the whole thing.Sorry for you, but I hope the blade itself is of Japanese origin and much better! 1 Quote

ROKUJURO Posted March 20, 2018 Report Posted March 20, 2018 Arnold, that was my guess, as similar TSUBA are being offered online in large amounts from adresses of sellers in China. Do you have a better origin assignment? Quote
seattle1 Posted March 20, 2018 Report Posted March 20, 2018 Hello: Well I did spot the fortune cookie crumbs right away, but I didn't see the two kanji for "Middle Kingdom, and thought it too early for an April Fool's joke, so the inquiry. Arnold F. Quote
acoyauh Posted March 27, 2018 Author Report Posted March 27, 2018 Sword is a perfectly good edo nihonto, no problem, those I know well, plus it does come from Japan. China is not surprising for the koshirae, the tsuka had fake same and synthetic silk. I suppose they dedided to "dress it" cheaply for selling, or something. I really appreciate your feedback, as always. I'll go check Chinese forums online and see if I can have it translated. It probably says something like "Gotcha, fool!" =P Quote
John A Stuart Posted March 27, 2018 Report Posted March 27, 2018 To me it looks 一横知義 + kao Ikkyo Tomoyoshi on a reproduction tsuba. Commonly found on reproduction replicas. John 1 Quote
