John A Stuart Posted September 21, 2017 Report Posted September 21, 2017 OK. It is just talking about Umetada group and the Kyoto Shoami school, the iron quality and the 'niku' of the mimi. I think. John Quote
kissakai Posted September 22, 2017 Author Report Posted September 22, 2017 This is what I have: Tadatsugu school Umetada of Shoami School of thought is that it is made in Kyoto Confidently agree the style is correct for the smith and school Good iron ground small permeability of good? A small rim (I think this refers to the thinning of the rim) Something about being skilled and a possible location Name tsuba I'd be interested in this line: えの良い鉄地に得意の小透 Quote
Shugyosha Posted September 22, 2017 Report Posted September 22, 2017 Hi Grev, Maybe something like "the achievement of [placing] ko sukashi within a well forged iron ground was [the smith's] forte/ speciality". Sorry, I think that needed placing in the context of the previous and following lines. I think the last line might read..."in addition, the raising of a small rim and the placement of the thickness of the ground are skillful". I'm sure one of the better linguists can improve on this and I hope I havent' twisted the meaning too much. Best, John Quote
kissakai Posted September 22, 2017 Author Report Posted September 22, 2017 Thanks John - Looks pretty close to what I thought it may be Quote
kissakai Posted September 22, 2017 Author Report Posted September 22, 2017 I forgot to ask about the relationship below "Umetada group and the Kyoto Shoami school" Quote
John A Stuart Posted September 22, 2017 Report Posted September 22, 2017 I think it is saying, and I might be reading it wrong, that Tadatsugu is of an Umetada group or faction of the Kyoto Shoami school. John Quote
