I'm trying to find informations about this tsuba like school and age.

Patina is dark brown. Deep carvings with a fine gold pattern.

Measurements:

Diameter: 70 mm

Weight: 131 gr

Mimi: 4 mm

Hi Chris,

Can't help with school but I think age is young.  The design partially covering the seppa-dai is something I associate with the late 19th century at the earliest; it looks like it was made to be appreciated as a collectible rather than a functional tsuba.

But I can be wrong.  Grey

Hi Grey thank you for your opinion. I think the Tsuba was mounted. I tried to make pictures in a differnet light.

Chris,

of course it was mounted, there are traces visible on the later pictures, and otherwise the TAGANE are not needed. But I also think it is not old. The "fine gold pattern" is due to the technique of fixing it to the iron surface.

Not speaking for Grey, i think he was alluding too that the design in the seppa dai leads us to think it was not made to be mounted, rather to be displayed. If it was it would place it in his time period.
