Hello, can you please help me with this fittings find on Wakizasi in today's local militaria market. Fuchi/Kashira (mei turned wrong in the pic. with mobile phone) and Kogatana are very detailed in Samurai battle on river (? Soten). I belive it is all from the same maker. Also fat man with drum on Saya like menuki. No menuki as it has copper screw.Saya it looks like wrapped in thin paper or skin(?). Tsuba looks old with gold inserts / Wada Sukashi/Higo (?)

Thank you for any information,

Regards,

Bojan S.

Hello, I have Nihonto blades only in Shirasayas, so this Waki is the first with Koshirae. And so my knowledge on fittings art is limited. Is it possible to read Mei from Fuchi and meybe info about the age of Tsuba. Only from my estetical point of view fittings looks good made and had diferent material combination and microscopic details.

Thank you very much for help,

Bojan S.

Bojan my guess would be late Edo period but someone may give a more precise age. If someone reads the mei it may narrow things down a little. Any blade pic's? Cheers.

You need to find authenticated versions of this signature and see how yours compares with the authenticated (papered) versions. It sounds straightforward, but it is not always easy. Some artists used the same signature with very little variation, while other artists used several different styles throughout their life. Anyway, try copy and pasting the name (English or Japanese version, or both) into a search engine to see what you come up with.
