shibeni Posted October 16, 2016 Report Posted October 16, 2016 Hello, can you please help me with this fittings find on Wakizasi in today's local militaria market. Fuchi/Kashira (mei turned wrong in the pic. with mobile phone) and Kogatana are very detailed in Samurai battle on river (? Soten). I belive it is all from the same maker. Also fat man with drum on Saya like menuki. No menuki as it has copper screw.Saya it looks like wrapped in thin paper or skin(?). Tsuba looks old with gold inserts / Wada Sukashi/Higo (?) Thank you for any information, Regards, Bojan S. Quote
Greg F Posted October 16, 2016 Report Posted October 16, 2016 Hello Bojan, Tsuba looks like it could be Higo, I like it. Greg 1 Quote

shibeni Posted October 17, 2016 Author Report Posted October 17, 2016 Hello, I have Nihonto blades only in Shirasayas, so this Waki is the first with Koshirae. And so my knowledge on fittings art is limited. Is it possible to read Mei from Fuchi and meybe info about the age of Tsuba. Only from my estetical point of view fittings looks good made and had diferent material combination and microscopic details. Thank you very much for help, Bojan S. Quote
Greg F Posted October 17, 2016 Report Posted October 17, 2016 Bojan my guess would be late Edo period but someone may give a more precise age. If someone reads the mei it may narrow things down a little. Any blade pic's? Cheers. Greg Quote
shibeni Posted October 18, 2016 Author Report Posted October 18, 2016 Hello, probably I have to move mei question to the translation topic. Regards, Bojan S. Quote

shibeni Posted October 19, 2016 Author Report Posted October 19, 2016 Hello and thank you very much, how can I know if this signature or fittings are fake made. All parts was fitted nicely in koshirae. I looked through microscope lens and see nice details from diferent soft metals.. Thank you, Bojan S. Quote
SteveM Posted October 19, 2016 Report Posted October 19, 2016 You need to find authenticated versions of this signature and see how yours compares with the authenticated (papered) versions. It sounds straightforward, but it is not always easy. Some artists used the same signature with very little variation, while other artists used several different styles throughout their life. Anyway, try copy and pasting the name (English or Japanese version, or both) into a search engine to see what you come up with. Quote
zanilu Posted October 19, 2016 Report Posted October 19, 2016 Hello Bojan I already did a search of Soten signatures considering only trusted sources and papered items. You can find a collection of mei here: http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/forum/84-study-of-a-soten-tsuba/ Best Regards Luca 1 Quote
