Kogatana Id

I was searching for a kogatana when i encountered this.

It's a modern 1-piece kogatana casted,that seems to have been dif-hardened.

I would like to hear opinions about it on whether is a decent piece or letter opener junk.

Here's another example similar to yours. I doubt it is a letter opener but just a different type of kogatana. But what the hell do I know???

But the handle is clearly casted,couldn't they cast the iron piece and heat treat afterwards?

Or maybe it doesnt even have hamon and it have simply been brushed

you need a special steel for the Japanese way of YAKIIRE. The handle seems indeed to be cast and the "HAMON" has probably

been brushed into the patinated surface.

i even do hard doupt this piece is antique!

 

it is far from common to see a onepiece construction.

 

i would let fingers from it- if i were you definitely...Looks not good at all!
