hxv Posted May 11, 2016 Report Posted May 11, 2016 Greetings, I found a nice oshigata print of what looks like an exceptional sword at a garage sale. I could only read "Bizen Osafune Kanenaga." Any help in translating the remainder including the mei and kao) would be much appreciated. Warmest Regards, Hoanh Quote

b.hennick Posted May 11, 2016 Report Posted May 11, 2016 Looks like Allen Mckelvy's oshigata work. He was at the Chicago show. Regards, Barry Hennick 2 Quote
hxv Posted May 11, 2016 Author Report Posted May 11, 2016 Thank you Barry. I was trying to decipher the signature, but it was too flowery for me to decipher. Now I have the artist's name. Hoanh Quote
drjoe Posted January 10, 2019 Report Posted January 10, 2019 bugei is going out of business, so the link is no longer active.does anyone have information on the sword depicted in the oshigata? is it a museum piece or something in the artist's collection? Quote
drjoe Posted January 12, 2019 Report Posted January 12, 2019 I tracked down Allan and asked about the mei. It was a katana previously owned by him, but no longer.Kanenaga on the omote side, Honami Koson (kao) on the ura. Bizen Osafune Kanenaga is written in calligraphy on the right side of the oshigata. 金猿印刷is the signature that he used for himself (something to the effect of "golden monkey printing"). 1 Quote
