lonely panet Posted March 3, 2016 Report Posted March 3, 2016 Hi guys, well I have this sword, and on this sword is a tsuba, but Im at abit of a loss as to the age and school its a early looking design with some signs of urushi in the corners. its missing some silver inserts on the mimi (which I think is to be bamboo) but it looks way to good to be that old (was thinking sengoku, with boars eyes/maybe tachi ) can I please ask for your ideas. bady is either copper or yamagane Quote
Dojikiri Posted March 3, 2016 Report Posted March 3, 2016 It looks like a yamagane Tachi-kanagushi tsuba maybe late Muromachi or Momoyama, it is a pity the o-seppa are missing as it is good quality tachi tsuba, Alan Quote
Curran Posted March 3, 2016 Report Posted March 3, 2016 I think it is much later in Edo than that. It may be missing the plates that go front and back over it, often engraved with some design. Quote
Gordon Sanders Posted March 3, 2016 Report Posted March 3, 2016 I think it is much later in Edo than that. It may be missing the plates that go front and back over it, often engraved with some design. I was thinking the same thing Curran, as just a neophyte observer. It seemed that something large is missing Quote
Marius Posted March 3, 2016 Report Posted March 3, 2016 Looks like late Edo/Bakumatsu revival tsuba. Still, if it were. it would a nice example of how revival stuff differed from the original. Nice in any case. Quote
