vajo Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 I have a Sukashi Tsuba I think Owari school early / mid edo period. What you think? Quote
ROKUJURO Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 Chris,a really nice TSUBA!Symmetrical design and KAKU MIMI may be a hint to OWARI, although it looks quite stout, so may indeed be EDO. Are there TEKKOTSU on the MIMI? Quote
vajo Posted February 1, 2016 Author Report Posted February 1, 2016 Thank you Jean. I didn't know excactly what tekkotsu means, maybe strong? The mimi is very massiv. This is the backside. I found a similar looking tsuba (Azuchi-Momoyama to the early Edo period) at richard turners blog. Maybe the same Artist? http://kodogunosekai.com/2011/04/ (little scroll down) Quote
Teimei Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 Hi Chris, tekkotsu literally means iron bones. http://www.ksky.ne.jp/~sumie99/tekkotsu.html regards, Quote
christianmalterre Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 Dear Chris, sorry to have to somehow "discourage" you.... this Tsuba very certainly is not typical early or even mid Owari school (execution and taste), nor is it that old as you do expect. i rather do see here a typical late to lattest Edo period time craftmanship, done in a typically to ben observed "esteem" to the early Kyo and Shoami traditions.... actually, without seeing it in life,...just judging from your´s posted pictures... a better hint for you may be so do look for the latter Awa or maybe Akao´s.... you may purchase you following books in future,(or join the local Germany resident collectors clubs ? (like Nihontoclub or German section of NBTHK) examining what is available on info herein, given freely and encouraging by the members....) books to have for you: 1. Sasano Masayuki- Sukashi Tsuba 2. Edition from 1976 2. Sasano Masayuki- Sasano Part I. 3. Eckhard Kremers- Sukashi Tsuba in europäischen Sammlungen 4. Otto Kümmel- "Sukashi Tsuba" (may be hard to find ?)- and the maybe more known publication: Otto Kümmel-"Japanische Schwertzieraten" Christian Quote
ROKUJURO Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 .....I found a similar looking tsuba......at richard turners blog. Maybe the same artist?...... Chris, it has similar design elements, yes (ITOMAKI), but is not the same iron and not from the same hand and period. It may even be from a different school, I think. But it is a nice one; I like it! vajo Posted February 1, 2016 Author Report Posted February 1, 2016 Ok What you think about the price when i would sell it? Quote
vajo Posted February 1, 2016 Author Report Posted February 1, 2016 Recieved boardmail that says it is Owari school. Maybe some wide difference? Quote
ROKUJURO Posted February 1, 2016 Report Posted February 1, 2016 Chris, you have to know what you have and what your idea of value is. When you put it up with a price, you will get the appropriate response!I like this TSUBA and I would buy it within my budget limits! Quote
vajo Posted February 2, 2016 Author Report Posted February 2, 2016 Thank you for your response Rkojuro. I didn't want to sell it. It's part of my collection. Quote
