Fuuten Posted December 19, 2015 Report Posted December 19, 2015 Good day, Has anyone ever seen this before? Looks like a gold filled horimono, but i don't think I've ever seen anything like it. Only on the nagako as attribution or something similiar.. > http://www.e-sword.jp/sale/2010/1010_4007syousai.htm 1 Quote
Loki Posted December 19, 2015 Report Posted December 19, 2015 Hi, The only time I have seen gold inlaid in a blade is this one mentioned on the T-Ken society http://www.to-ken.com/full.php?article=sr000081&type=swordRegister But the oshigata is in black and white. There are picture in BW Robinsons book I think. Rare but done occasionally. Quote

Christian The item is already sold, i was just browsing through the section I thought about it being paint or makie lacquer work, but figured it would be too far fetched. Quote
Greg F Posted December 19, 2015 Report Posted December 19, 2015 Hi guys, I too have not seen gold to fill horimono. If you s roll to the bottom of the link there is color photos. Ive see red laquer used to fill bohi, I believe red laquer was used to fill in flaws but seems weird to use gold for this purpose unless the blde is of high value or important? Interesting topic. Thanks. Greg Quote

Thanks. Greg I'm not sure where i got the notion in the first place, but I thought the lacquer in bohi and the like was placed there because it would keep the rust away.. and because otherwise it would be a pain for someone to maintain and or polish over and over? Greg F Posted December 20, 2015 Report Posted December 20, 2015 Hi Alex, yes i think its to stop rust/flaws getting worse but any and all rust must be removed 1st. I like the look of gold in the horimono flames. Very cool Greg Quote
