Teimei Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 Hi fellow members, when i was visiting aoi-art some time ago, i recognized this naginata: http://www.aoijapan.com/naginata-mumei-attributed-as-higo-kami-kuniyasu I thought, that it Looks like quite a good Piece, surely not high end but an honest Piece of work. But it seems that Tsurata-san thinks that this Piece is not even good enough for a shirasaya. Is it really that bad? Could be common, but i have never seen a bare blade on aoi before. regards, Quote
Marius Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 Florian, This blade is perfectly OK and should have a shirasaya. I presume it was in koshirae, that was sold separately. Since shirasaya costs money, Tsuruta san gives the buyer the option to have one made. I presume the cost wil be JPY60k at least. Quote
Fuuten Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 Still its listed with the piece that if you want a shirasaya made to contact them, so how can they then deny making one? Seems a strange remark. Quote
paulb Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 Has Tsuruta san said it isnt worthy of a shirasaya? All it says in the description is it doesnt have one He often sells swords on consignment. It is possible the current owner didnt want to go to the expense of having one made, he just wanted to move the sword on. Aoi say they can arrange for a shirasaya if required so I am not sure where the idea of "not being worthy" comes from Quote
Teimei Posted August 5, 2015 Author Report Posted August 5, 2015 Hi, yeah Axel that is the same thought that crossed my mind! Paul, i did not want to insult the naginata, nor the seller that listed it. I was just wondering, why this quite nice blade sit´s there naked . In fact it could be my next purchase. Regards, Quote
paulb Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 Florian I wasnt suggesting you were insulting anything or anyone I just didnt see where your conclusion had come from and thought I had missed something. Sorry if i gave you the wrong impression. I thik it looks ok, not a great work but an ok example of what it is. good luck if you do go for it Regards Paul Quote

Jean Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 I am on it at 100% with Paul. Often Tsuruta san is very factual, it is a question of money. The sword is in consignment without a shirasaya. He can have one made with extra bucks. That's all Quote
Gasam Posted August 6, 2015 Report Posted August 6, 2015 Hi, Yes, Paul and Jean are right. Tsuruta-san will send the naginata over to a sayashi for a fitted shirasaya if the buyer so requests. There were two rather similar kanbun naginatas at the same price point recently, of which this one remains, the other one already had a shirasaya. When last Tsuruta-san had a shirasaya made for me it was 35.000 yen, this was for a wakisashi. I have one naginata in shirasaya, and it might be a little more difficult to produce, but I really do not know. I too think this naginata deserves to be sold. I quite like its shape :-) Quote
Teimei Posted August 7, 2015 Author Report Posted August 7, 2015 Thanks Jean and Gasam. Hopefully i will be able to raise some funds in the near future... but right now i catched a flu and my body constantly tries to die . Regards, Quote
