Andi B. Posted December 4, 2014 Report Posted December 4, 2014 Hello, does anybody have a broken blade / piece of blade to sell? I'm looking for a cheap fragment (...some inches, maybe with tang) which can be polished to see the hada, hamon and cross section for demonstration/display. For offers, please PM me. Quote
Andi B. Posted March 1, 2015 Author Report Posted March 1, 2015 ...finally got a tanto piece and made a quick acit etch of a small segment: 1 Quote
paulb Posted March 1, 2015 Report Posted March 1, 2015 Andi Are you sure this was a tanto? cross section is shinogi zukuri whereas for a tanto hirazukuri would be much more likely. Also tanto construction ,especially on older work, was more often single piece. Regards Paul Quote
Andi B. Posted March 1, 2015 Author Report Posted March 1, 2015 Paul, you're right - it might have been a (ko-)wakizashi. Quote
b.hennick Posted March 1, 2015 Report Posted March 1, 2015 At the Tampa show one Japanese dealer was selling pieces of swords that had been converted to mekugi nuki (peg removers). I bought two both from koto blades. The first is a tang with two holes the second is a section of blade. That section has a maru mune which is not that common. I am on the road travelling home and cannot take a picture of the two pieces. If there is interest I can add them in a few days. Quote

Good day Mr b. hennick, for the uninformed such as myself, can one rework these old pieces through heat and forging into a small blade..or does one just keep the pieces? Quote
b.hennick Posted March 21, 2015 Report Posted March 21, 2015 Sorry I can't help you there. I have never tried to make a knife. Quote
Jamie Posted March 21, 2015 Report Posted March 21, 2015 Barry, I'd be interested to see pics. I have a couple that a swordsmith made and look like mini nakago Quote
b.hennick Posted March 21, 2015 Report Posted March 21, 2015 Both sections are from Koto blades. The part from the blade is interesting because it has a maru mune. The tang section is interesting because it shows the blades construction. Quote
