Choshu Hagi query

Hi

I'd like some help with this tsuba, recently bought from eBay

It was described as Choshu Hagi and from an old (60 years) private collection

Originally bought from a Japanese seller

Subject

Birds and snow flakes

Size

64 x 60 x 4.3mm

I thought it was more like Akasaka from around 1775

I could be a revivalist tsuba but it looks OK showing 'bones'

Does anyone know what the stamp is on the box, sorry it is quite faded but I know what good eyesight some of you have

The box looks quite new so can not be 60 years old

As I didn't pay much for it and I liked so I can cope with bad news

Hi

I realise that the stamp will be virtually impossible to decipher but I'd thought I may have got a reply about the tsuba school/type

Going through my books again I was drawn to Owari but found similar a sukashi (snow flake?) with a ko Shoami example

Any guesses? :thanks:

Grev,

All I can say is that it isn't a Choshu Hagi tsuba based on the ones I have seen and the one I own. Anything but.

As to what it is, I have no idea as it doesn't have many feaures that stand out, and the plate showing signs of flat sanding/grinding doesn't lead me to Akasaka, but to late Edo generic work.

Thanks Brian & Jimi san

I tried to improve the image but it just got worse :bang:

I'd be surprised if the box went with the tsuba

The seller was adamant that it was Choshu hagi and as Brian said this was completely wrong

I'm thinking Owari

I has long shaped 'bones' on the mimi and looks and feels if there is some age to it
