bone Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 I sent this sword to Jamie who, after studying it carefully and under a loop told me this sword was interesting. There is a LOT of activity that's disguised by a poor polish. Actually he said the geometry was all wrong. But also warned me that it might not take another polsih which leaves me in limbo. I desperately want to hear from an expert who's seen this in hand instead of pitiful pics avaiable. There 's a LOT of activities not seen there. Is there ANYONE I can send her to someone who could tell me if this blade is worth polishing or if I should sell it and strive for something better. I count on you guys. Sincerely, Steven PS This sword has been discussed at length here. Both Mark Green and Reinhard suggested it needs to be studied by a pro. Any volunteers? Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 Steve, there's nothing to look at.... Forget something? Ken Quote
bone Posted September 23, 2014 Author Report Posted September 23, 2014 You've probably seen this so often as to make you sick but here's the original thread. http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e382/ ... a/Sa13.jpg It's not THE Sa obviously but it' so full of life if you could just see it in hand. bone Posted September 23, 2014 Author Report Posted September 23, 2014 Maybe this will work..http://s43.photobucket.com/user/boneami/library/Sa Quote
bone Posted September 23, 2014 Author Report Posted September 23, 2014 Anyway, these pics have been seen by everybody by now. Jamie believe it's Hiatsuru. I still think it may be bo utusri with ummm dammit! Something yaki. sorry guys it's on the tip of my tongue. Anyway, what do you think? Quote
bone Posted September 23, 2014 Author Report Posted September 23, 2014 and Ken is gone. Ah well. The rest of you have seen it. Could just be a poor polish not letting all the activity show? Quote
Jamie Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 Steve As we discussed It is hitatsura and not utsuri. It's not brought out well I think so it's hard to see, but it's hitatsura. I will agree that it looks somewhat like utsuri but is indeed hitatsura. And for the sake of accuracy it was a 10x magnifying glass used to determine this. Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 PS This sword has been discussed at length here. Link to that thread, please? Thank you. Quote
cabowen Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 Are you in the position to have it properly polished, which may well cost close to $4000US? If so, then contact Takeo Seki in Canada. Fully trained professional. He can advise you. Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 Also ask them to repatinate the nakago. The way it is now, with that nakago, the sword is of less value. KM Quote
Mark Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 You could contact Bob Benson, if you sent it to him he could give you his opinion, he could put a window in and advise after that and even handle polish shinsa etc. Bob has a lot of experiance Quote
bone Posted September 23, 2014 Author Report Posted September 23, 2014 Exactly what my friend Jamie said to do. I can't tell you how helpful he's been to me on so many levels. I had no idea it was Soshu and no idea what hitatsura was until I sent it to him. He did it all for free too. I really appreciate you buddy. So... getting hold of Bob Benson? Quote
