Just kidding around.....it made me think of the pharaoh's tsuba.....

Seems like ancient Egyptian sword did not have a hand guard.

Anyway, what those kinji says?

Some did, some did not.

To be honest, I would not know what the kanji say. The image is very unclear in that respect.

 

You might be able to do a rubbing like sometimes is done with coins.

 

That might make the kanji clearer.

I decoded the four Kanji on the tsuba at last. It's says 廓 然 無 性

 

The four Kanji is the teachings of Dharma.
