startrek Posted September 21, 2013 Report Posted September 21, 2013 As you can see I am new here, I have been trying to study the ins and outs of Japanese swords. I have always wanted a representative sample or an original WW2 Japanese edged weapon and have found one I need advice on,eBay item number: 310748792272 , I have talked to the folks selling it and they claim they have had two experts confirm it is authentic, strange thing is they have 2 more different style Japanese swords for sale and they all appear to be in too good condition. Would it be asking too much for you to look at the item number and give me your opinion? Quote
Stephen Posted September 21, 2013 Report Posted September 21, 2013 they come off to me as repos, sorry http://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_odkw=&i ... &_from=R40 http://www.ebay.com/itm/310748792272?ru ... _110wt_671 Quote
Brian Posted September 21, 2013 Report Posted September 21, 2013 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Japanese-NAVY-O ... 0748792272? I think it's a repro. Not a fake as such...a reproduction. If it is real...I would avoid it anyways. Stainless steel blade of no art value. There are lots of genuine Gunto out there for around $750 or so. Brian Quote
Stu W Posted September 24, 2013 Report Posted September 24, 2013 they come off to me as repos, sorry I agree with Stephen. Not one for my collection. Regards, Stu Quote
obiwanknabbe Posted September 24, 2013 Report Posted September 24, 2013 Startrek (i dig the handle) It has been my experience that whenever there is a sword for sale and there are NO pictures of the Nagako, it sends up a red flag. Looking at the pictures, it looks as though some of the fittings may be real, but pieced together around a modern made blade. The Samegawa is identical on several of the blades... (and unless im wrong, black same was not typically used on army mounts) The Boshi looks short as well. I agree with the other guys here.. pass on it. Kurt. K Quote
Stephen Posted September 24, 2013 Report Posted September 24, 2013 Kurt as you study more youll see the fittings are repos as well Quote
obiwanknabbe Posted September 24, 2013 Report Posted September 24, 2013 Thanks for the correction Steven, Learning is what I am here for. Kurt .K Quote
