Mark Posted April 13, 2013 Report Posted April 13, 2013 I have a gendai, I can read Chikugo ju fujiwara mitsuhisa. I am having trouble with the left column of kanji (if I made any mistakes let me know) it is dated September 1943, no stamps. Unless I am missing him, I do not find a listing for this maker Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted April 14, 2013 Report Posted April 14, 2013 Unfortunately mark, I'm no help but would love to see the blade. Quote
k morita Posted April 14, 2013 Report Posted April 14, 2013 Hi, Left inscription says: " One of three ordered(sword) from Kazusa,Yamasaki,Iwayama." I am guessing that this sword is a order made sword(3 swords) from three persons. Kazusa,Yamasaki,Iwayama are family name. Quote
cabowen Posted April 14, 2013 Report Posted April 14, 2013 I would add that this smith is not listed in the Meikan. It is unusual for a showa era smith to include Fujiwara in his mei. Quote
Mark Posted April 14, 2013 Author Report Posted April 14, 2013 thanks Chris and Morita-san. I will take a picture and post it in a day or so. Quote
cabowen Posted April 14, 2013 Report Posted April 14, 2013 Mark- The mei is nicely done, as is the nakago. I have a few more places I can look for info and will let you know if I find anything. One distinct possibility is that this is an alternate mei used by an established smith. Another is that he was a student of Muto Hisahiro...There were quite a few smiths in the Fukuoka area. Pictures of the blade with hamon would be useful, as would a picture of the date. Quote
Mark Posted April 14, 2013 Author Report Posted April 14, 2013 here are some. it is clearly gendai. the way it is made and the mei is cut I think it has to be a known maker, it would too well done for an amateur smith (I think) Quote
george trotter Posted April 14, 2013 Report Posted April 14, 2013 Nice sword Mark. I looked in Uchiyama Chris and also thought of a link to the Muto line with all those Hisas, but nothing listed there. I have exhausted nearly all my books so not sure who he is. I'll keep looking...maybe someone could check Markus' book? Hamon looks nice, some masame hada? What are the mounts? Regards, Quote
Mark Posted April 14, 2013 Author Report Posted April 14, 2013 George, I checked Markus book first, nothing listed. There is some flowing grain that contains some masame. There are no mounts, it was a bare blade. Quote
cabowen Posted April 14, 2013 Report Posted April 14, 2013 I have looked through the results for the last few war era contests and I do not find a Mitsuhisa listed.... I think these are the most likely possible connections: Muto Hisahiro Kajihara Hiromitsu Endo Nagamitsu Sa Nobumitsu The workmanship seems closest to the Muto group...Here is Muto Hidehiro: Quote
