leo Posted November 18, 2012 Report Posted November 18, 2012 Hi, fellers, saw these 6 auctions by the same seller on egun today. http://www.egun.de/market/list_items.ph ... liping1981 Egun is the biggest online platform in Europe for weapons of all kind and a copy of ebay. Usually original nihonto are scarce on egun, but here 6 genuine swords are being offered by a Chinese seller for low starting prices. Located in Shanghai and with zero feedback he will probably receive no bids, but maybe someone on this board knows him or the merchandise? Maybe he is a member of this board and has positive feedback here? Regards, Martin Quote
Marius Posted November 18, 2012 Report Posted November 18, 2012 Martin, if you want to risk buying from a Chinese seller... good luck. Photos show real nihonto, though. I'd do some reference check. Quote
Veli Posted November 18, 2012 Report Posted November 18, 2012 Some pictures and descriptions are copied from japanesesword.com... http://www.japanesesword.com/AntiqueSwords/swordsunder2500to5000.htm http://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=4127717 http://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=4127752 Veli Quote
leo Posted November 18, 2012 Author Report Posted November 18, 2012 Thanks, Veli, indeed it seems that pictures were taken from this site. Definitely the same green cloth was used for the photos! So it is either a fraudster or Alfred Tan chose to advertise on egun under a Shanghai address! Best, Martin Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted November 18, 2012 Report Posted November 18, 2012 Then someone should notify Egun. KM Quote
leo Posted November 18, 2012 Author Report Posted November 18, 2012 I will send them an email with a link to Alf Tans homepage in order to check on the seller. Quote
leo Posted November 18, 2012 Author Report Posted November 18, 2012 Auctions have been removed. Apparently the seller is a member or visitor of this board. Quote
NihontoEurope Posted November 18, 2012 Report Posted November 18, 2012 Apparently the seller is a member or visitor of this board. Trojans Getting ahead start of latest news. /Martin Quote
Tokaido Posted January 4, 2013 Report Posted January 4, 2013 Hello Folks, aparently the european egun site is "discovered" once again by one more China based "seller": http://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=4193112 http://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=4198363 http://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=4198773 http://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=4198788 http://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=4198798 http://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=4198805 http://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=4198809 Looks like genuine stuff, BUT - listed by a "seller" from China who joined the egun platform less than one week ago - "seller" has no feedback - description contains all the same meaningless sentence - pricing is a joke, at least on some of the items Maybe a new years joke? Greetings Andreas Quote
Veli Posted January 4, 2013 Report Posted January 4, 2013 Well well, a Suishinshi Hideyo Nyudo katana with Hozon papers for 1500 Euro... payment by bank transfer only ... I just wonder where they got the photos this time. Veli Quote
Stephen Posted January 6, 2013 Report Posted January 6, 2013 Veil Is that the first sword on the list, very lovely it is, what a prize that would be to own. Quote
Veli Posted January 6, 2013 Report Posted January 6, 2013 Stephen, Yes, that one! A real beauty, although the sabigiwa looks a bit weird. I just cannot find any clue in the internet about the origin of these photos. Anyway, I would call this one ignis fatuus... Veli Quote
cuttingedge59 Posted January 6, 2013 Report Posted January 6, 2013 Hi, Be very wary as I seen a similar scam a while back where a chinese dealer used genuine photo's of nihonto from another web site which was firmilar to me as his listing. I would sugguest that you would pay your money to him and never see your money, items or the dealer again. Chris Quote
Brian Posted January 6, 2013 Report Posted January 6, 2013 Why even consider the possibility of a real deal. Face it, this IS fraud. No debate about it. Just because we cannot find the original source of the pics, that doesn't make it real. The seller is in China, using a German website, and the pics are hosted on a German person's photo hosting account. Trust me, it is fraud. Anyone falling for this scam deserves it. Brian Quote
Veli Posted January 6, 2013 Report Posted January 6, 2013 Brian, Sorry if I gave a wrong impression. I would never buy from this kind of an unknown source nor suggest anyone to do so. I am just using subdued language in my commets, because calling a seller a fraudster in a public media just based on his nationality is a criminal act at least in Finland. It is a different case if we have proof in the form of stolen images etc. I trust we all know what this deal is all about... Veli Quote
NihontoEurope Posted January 6, 2013 Report Posted January 6, 2013 One thing is for sure. It is a high risk item. /Martin Quote
Stephen Posted January 6, 2013 Report Posted January 6, 2013 my coments were about the sword, not the auction which is a scam. i forgot the name of the blades construction and too tired to look it up, something to do with a bird i think...any way if wishes were horses id own the sword. Which is REAL, not the auction. Quote
Brian Posted January 6, 2013 Report Posted January 6, 2013 Stephen, Got that when I first read your post..I feel the same. Beauty...most of us seem to love that naginata profile in katana blades, and this one is a Kogarasu Maru style blade. Whover does own it has a beauty. Probably a Japanese dealer. Brian Quote
Brian Posted January 6, 2013 Report Posted January 6, 2013 Will someone send the seller a question and say that you want to buy this sword, and often travel to Beijing on business. Can you pick up the sword in person? Once he tells you why that isn't possible...then tell him you will take it, but want a picture of the blade on top of a current newspaper. See what he says Brian Quote
leo Posted January 6, 2013 Author Report Posted January 6, 2013 I wrote to Egun explaining the fraudulent intent of these offers. They wrote back that as so far no interest at all was shown in these offers, they do not see any need to take action. Considering the 0 feedback and the style I would also think that the likelihood of anybody falling for this, is almost nil. Best Quote
