hskeffington Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 Hello, Find attached a picture of a WWII Wakizashi with a Showa stamp. I'd like to get it translated. Thanks in advance, Harry Quote
Mark Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 Seki Mifuka Masayuki saku. made by Masayuki, Fuller & Gregory have the personal name as Mifuka but i am not sure if this is the correct translation. Quote
Nobody Posted October 11, 2012 Report Posted October 11, 2012 The correct reading of the name is Miwa Masayuki (三輪正行). Ref. http://home.earthlink.net/~ttstein/masayuk4.jpg Quote
hskeffington Posted October 11, 2012 Author Report Posted October 11, 2012 Thank you gentlemen, much appreciated. I would assume that since it's a non-traditional sword it's value wouldn't be very high. Would that be a correct assessment? --Harry Quote
Brian Posted October 11, 2012 Report Posted October 11, 2012 Yes. But Showato wakizashi are far scarcer than katana, so I think a militaria collector would pay a premium for a shorter one. That assumes that there was no shortening from the front, and the saya etc is shorter. Post pics out of interest. Brian Quote
hskeffington Posted October 12, 2012 Author Report Posted October 12, 2012 See attached picture. --Harry Quote
Brian Posted October 13, 2012 Report Posted October 13, 2012 Harry, That pic is labelled as full sword, but is just another pic of the nakago. To give you any info, we will need a full shot of the sword. The nakago looks full (katana) size though, so I'd be surprised if the blade length was under 60.6cm nagasa. Brian Quote
