  1. Ron, this is what I like about the later Edo period, the Japanese were able to take a weapon or armor etc and while keeping it functional they were able to transform it into a work of art at the same time.
  2. Jean, of course this is the kind of info that really expands ones knowledge and I read every word of it...but I have to admit that in between this kind of "research?".... ebay does provide a kind of entertainment ( at least for me) and there is a lot that someone who is not on the same level can learn by asking questions from the more enlightened members here on items that are for sale any were online, I know for a fact that people have been stopped from making bad purchases just from watching the discussions on the fake and low quality items that are sometimes artfully dissected here by the people who have the knowledge to do just that.
  3. Jean, cant we do both?...we need something to do while waiting for the good stuff to come around....
  4. Ron, great post..I was wondering if Tanegashima get any more ornate and elaborate than your example or is this the top end so to speak.
  5. Ron, did you post pictures that are not showing up or will you be posting some?
  6. That is nice Jean, that boat scene is awesome!
  7. Moss, I forgot all about this one, and you cant say that the buyer was fooled.
  8. Its amazing to see something like a set of books like that in such good condition. I just saw that this seller is selling a very old military kendo book which I am interested in as I have some antique kendo equipment.
  9. Joe, how long did your polish take from start to finish.
  10. Jason, maybe someone will post some pictures of fuchi etc that they have in their collection that are worthy of owning so you can see the difference... Jason, here is a set I consider to be nice. that would be very helpful and much appreciated.
  11. Here are two pictures Rey sent me to post for him.
  12. Jason, maybe someone will post some pictures of fuchi etc that they have in their collection that are worthy of owning so you can see the difference...
  13. Jason, add it to this set. from>>> http://cgi.ebay.com/SAMURAI-Kura-suddle ... 51921846be Here is a picture of a really nice set. from>>>> http://www.Japanese-ninja-armor.com/dai ... rrups.html
  14. Martin, one last thing....armor for the horse!! You have a great looking armor by the way. from>>> http://www.rwinterjapaneseart.com/index ... &Itemid=77
  15. Lorenzo, great video! Wish there was more on that horse armor.
  16. That blade looks suspect to me. something seems a lil off, but as you all know I am probably to new to give anyone advice. looks modern and no kissaki? Once again no close up of the blade, but plenty of good close pics of everything else? Also the habaki was not removed. People do not have any problem bidding it seems.
  17. Moss, I can not get the link to work...anyone else?
  18. Jason, here is one for you. from>>> http://www.japanauctioncenter.com/view2 ... /m71780732
  19. Moss, thank you and as for the purchaser of the sword..I am afraid that its no lesson learned at all until the time they eventually find out that the sword is a fake..if that ever happens.
  20. Moss, the nco looks like it has no wear on any of the edges or areas were you would expect to see use...it looks to new and yet tarnished at the same time. I am not an expert at all but it looks suspect to me. The stamping of the numbers looks rough compared to others I have seen, I have read that the numbers should be sharp, inline and precise...do you know if this is correct? Otsu? can you explain this term, thanks
  21. Piers, thats a good description of this event
  22. Rey, are photos possible? That would be helpful.
  23. One more book for the ever growing list, I have this pair of ropes and I am wondering if they might be horse related, they are 12 ft long with loops on one end and tassels on the other and quite thick..any opinions I think these tassels seem to be horse related also.
  24. John, thanks for this information, I have been looking for a way to date some Japanese chain armor other than by radiocarbon dating the fabric its sewn to, this gives me a new approach.
  25. Yes he was very easy to deal with i contacted him with my concerns and offered to still purchase them. I told him that they may be chinese casts, and he was happy to return my money. He was very classy. A point for him, and when I want a nice tea item I will definately purchase from him. Jason, did you notice that he did not mention antique or any other reference to age....keep that in mind next time...and if you have something in mind to purchase you can send a private message to a board member asking an opinion and I am sure that you do not have to worry about that person trying to buy the item themselves... you will just get an honest opinion.
