  1. Hi Geraint, not sure on first point, but will be looking at Muromachi era examples to compare, 4 mm thick. What do you think? Many thanks, Warm regards, Jon
  2. Hi Geraint, length of blade, sori and jigane made me think late koto,.
  3. Thank you Jean-Pierre, much appreciated. My guesses are improving, I guess.
  4. Scratches obscure much of the hamon, but there is a patch that is clear, and looks interesting.
  5. Wakizashi: Your opinions much appreciated. I am guessing Muromachi, mumei. Overall length: 66cm Nagasa: 53 cm
  6. This Tsuba is 7.5 cm top to bottom, 4mm wide (correction : 4mm thick). Is part of civilian koshirae converted for military use, saya has horn fittings, it appears to be a reasonably nice set. I really know next to nothing on tsuba, any pointers for further research much appreciated, thank you in advance folks. Warm regards, Jon B
  7. Nagasa 52 cm Overall 65 cm Thank you Steve. It's charms are indeed subtle. The calculation revolves around the not uncommon worries of: 'Spend more to enhance or cut losses, retreat'
  8. I was asking for a rough idea on value as Sue Bizen seem to vary widely. Apologies on un-centralised picture posting. ...Maybe my question re value is a bit out of place. If so, I could ask if this item look to have any notable qualities that elevate it beyond kazu uchimono? Many thanks.
  9. Many thanks in advance for any comments. Ray was already extremely helpful. I am fond of this piece, but may pass it on as I have other purchases to cover, thus the question regarding approx value. Sue Bizen is not my strongest area.. Warm Regards, Jon B
  10. From the date, it seems to slightly precede the main period of Kazu uchimono production, despite the use of 'Bishu' in the signature..
  11. I was wondering what this might be worth..
  12. Thank you for all comments. Not really my field of interest per se, may pass it on. Thank you all, once again.
  13. Thank you. So we think this is the original length then..
  14. Correction to title: 58 cm overall
  15. Thanks folks. Will take some more pics.
  16. Thanks Geraint. Gilded habaki and gilding or cold-gold paint to fittings.
  17. I was wondering what we think? Mumei wakizashi, Late Koto? No Tsuba Length: 23" overall, 18.5" nagasa Many thanks in advance. Will probably pass it on, but wanted one or two opinions first. Warm rgards, Jon B
  18. Surely some sort of discrete patination is likely to occur over time, slowed by by oiling, and only the abrasive features of uchiko will remove that patination, at the expense of the 'clarity' of the polish. Just a thought.
