  1. I think it's a reshaped wakizashi . If it was done intentionally I presume the Hamon in the boshi would turn back on itself like normal swords and not end like a kitchen knife so to speak. Understand how the poster feels about inner core showing through as I thought it might do too. At least it saved it from the scrap bin and makes it a talking point
  2. Sorry but sword was sold before I had comfirmation of mei It needed a polish but description said koto where as I knew the chippy style of kanji was Showa It takes me ages to decipher kanji and not always correct so I just needed quick help etc
  3. Many thanks gentlemen I knew it was Showa and not koto but needed comfirmation
  4. gentlemen i need some help been told this is an old koto blade but the kanji looks later maybe showato can you comfirm please
  5. I think Nathan is asking if the sword is worn live edge up or down....that's how I interpreted it
  6. Nathan. These guys are the bees knees when discussing nihonto so any advice they give is based on years of experience that we could only dream of. I for one are always thankful when they give advice Like you say we do not see what they see and it is frustrating Nice sword none the less
  7. Also look for a chap called bill tagg as he's based in Liverpool but attends the shows Sorry to hear about your loss
  8. Just a thought gentlemen...... This nagamitsu tanto I saved from the melters pot offers no indication of which generation or school etc as the blade is indeed poor Is they any way of knowing more just by the nakago and mei? viewtopic.php?f=15&t=15789&p==Nagamitsu+tanto#p139177
  9. In the past I have used car body filler to fill in dents / seam gaps and even the black spray cans to finish off If I need to do a real good job then I take to work and use a 2 pack finish on them in Matthew or gloss depending on what I want But I am a professional car refinisher by trade
  10. Agree....it looks like a shamshir axe Persian origin but no idea how the kanji got there
  11. agree with chris and george here, majority of gunto blades were mass produced for a specific reason and equipment / machinery were at hand to churn them out in the 1000s so to speak. like anything in life they are exceptions and many , many fine blades were produced but you need to look for them as you never know whats hiding under the saya lol many sword collectors will pass racks of guntos on display as 99% will be inferior
  12. .... A big thank you to all the regular guys who translate the kanjis when respectfully asked. I myself have asked a few times recently and I do appreciate it . Thank you all..........carry on
  13. Sorry chis it's the kanji you kindly translated earlier...viewtopic.php?f=15&t=17892
  14. Just looking for info on a RJT smith called naganori if anyone as any info on him Many thanks
  15. Thank you Chris and Koichi moriyama San Seems this smith is quite elusive I can find a seki smith by that name but no older generation one
  16. is this an easy one or will i have trouble
  17. you can see where this is leading.......lol so if a smith can purchase tamahagne for personel use or a special order how can one tell if a gunto is just hand made or traditionally made ? and no brian i am not refering to my kanetoshi lol just curious
  18. Just a thought gentleman... I know the RJT smiths were allotted a set amount of tamahagne to make swords with the star stamp on them but was he able to purchase some for his personal use or use left overs so to speak to make personel swords
  19. Lol. Joking aside my nick name is loiner but some call me loini ....how bizarre lol
  20. hey brian..... for a minute i thought you were going to say....kane...........toshi lol
  21. http://www.scribd.com/doc/136890269/Rikugun-Jumei-Tosho your smith is here
  22. http://Www.japanesesword.com/Images/Swo ... nto14.html Took me awhile to find this gentlemen but this sword is identical to mine apart from the Saya and mine is in fresh polish. The sword is very well balanced in the hand and feels lighter than others I've held edit..... mine is stamped with his full name and bears a hot stamp /kao on the tang which i cannot find any meaning to but presume its of buddist origin.
