  1. Much appreciated for the info. Regards to all
  2. Good morning to you all. Please provide feedback. I was thinking it was “old”, meaning not modern, then got it and the thought maybe modern, then examined to find filing on the rim BUT also in the Kozuka-ana where it was cleaned up by hand. thank you in advance
  3. This would fit nicely with my military swords collection 😉
  4. Hi Ben, I know this is an old thread but do you still have the tachi menuki tie clip?? Thanks
  5. You are correct. With a small tsuba it’s called Hamidashi
  6. Ron M

    Tsuba info please

Greeting to you all, I am looking for your opinions on these two tsuba I have. Some have seen these. Thank you Measurements for #1: 67x63mm, very thick, dark color Measurements for #2: 65x60mm, thin, chocolate color
  7. Pics of nakago, no indentation present to indicate a stamp was ever applied. Also, my opinion is he was right handed, by looking at the file marks on the right half of each side. Lol
  8. This sword has NO acid applied. I can testify to this. Traditional style polish with stones done during a Batto class instructional I taught. This is the SAME sword from my prior post. I appreciate you guys for replying also. Be home soon to show nakago better
  9. Thanks Stephen. I understand your view. i will post the nakago pics in a few hours to show it has ZERO signs of having a stamp ever. I have his sons blade also with a stamp removed and it’s obvious. I have scoured looking at his Gendai and they all have the dark peaks on the hamon leading my thinking. Also, I’m interested to see ANY oil quench with this type of activity clearly present as I have seen none like this. I have seen several acid polishes and they all “feel” lumpy under the cotton swab but this DOES NOT and is smooth as glass. I’m not trying to convince anyone else, only myself. This blade is a beauty and fits perfectly with my Gendai star blades. Be back soon! Thank you again
  10. Good morning folks, came across this, purchased it as a regular Type 98 mounted Gunto, and immediately felt it was unusual and special. I collect military swords and this is an Amahide blade, the papers are old as seen, but I don’t think it was a “bought paper” for a Showato. (There is no change in thickness on the nakago where they scoured out a stamp.) Bearing that in mind, I have also included here, with pics of this blade and paper, a pic of what a Gendaito by Amahide has for Jigane and Hamon. This looks similar in my opinion. Thank you for looking!
  11. Neil, did you ever get an answer on your ichimonji amahide question about your particular sword? I have a forged amahide signed “ichimonji minamoto amahide kin kitae kore”
  12. Ray, this is the sword I showed you a few months back that you believed to be Showa era and I agreed. The seller relisted it in the exact same way stating it was an older piece. The seller is also a knowledgeable person on NMB and it’s a shame he still is selling as an older blade.
  13. Just fyi, I actually purchased this sword then sent it back (I can show you proof if needed though I’m not trying to hurt the seller). Not due to flaws or a bad seller but because the pictures did not show all of the scuffing that is actually on the blade. You could not see any of the hada and barely the hamon in hand. The pics don’t show this and it looks really clean IN THE PICS but if you look carefully you can see the swirls hiding in plain site. It is going to need a polish immediately and isn’t a study piece as is. A good sword but will need investment so be aware.
  14. Hi, I definitely need seppa. What do you need to know from me? Regards Ron
  15. Paper showing Gendai, though old paper it does show there is no stamp nor one removed from what I can see in hand. It’s quite something
  16. Here are some more pics I took before out of town. Thank you for the replies
  17. Good morning, I am looking at an Amahide Showato blade from a nice Type 98 setup without signs of an arsenal stamp. I have read about the differences in the types of steels used; folded, partial folded, water quench vs oil quench. I am wondering if this is a version of the Han tanren abura yaki-ire-to that I have been reading about. This hamon is very active and there is a lot in the hada, though it does appear this blade is oil quenched. Please give some thoughts. Btw this sword has some nbthk papers from way back
  18. You will need to get it apart, taking the tsuka (handle) off and showing the nakagao (tang) hope to see pics soon
  19. Hi again, there are some nice cases out there for displaying a sword that are sealed against humidity and dust. They are in no way cheap but are incredibly nice. I believe there is a Japanese member on here who makes very classy cases so maybe someone knows him or you can search this site for his comments and then contact him. You may be able to google his work too 😉
  20. Might be YoshiNori. Looks like a standard Type 98 Gunto. Not sure about the blade..looks like a usual Showato however hard to say in these pics
  21. That’s a neat looking stand you made. Most people do not display the blade openly in this way as it collects dust and grime which is then transferred into the saya, which then scratches the blade, but if you’re happy with that then do it!
  22. Not much to tell yet. Please use patience with the stickers on the handle, they are definitely a bad placement. From what is shown, it does not appear to be fake (although the blade may be) but you will have to disassemble it and show the tang of the blade to get more answers. The guard “tsuba” is an unusual piece and very large. More pics of that too for more opinions. you have come to the right place as more people will comment with better knowledge
  23. Idk but it having a date is unusual having come from that particular seller who is known for his “questionable” blades. I lean to it looks good and my even be legit but more research is in order. Taking it to someone more seasoned, or even better is a sword club” would be the next step. “In hand” is the only way regards
  24. I can add measurements if needed. Thanks
  25. Hello again, got these three pieces with their blades. Please, any info is helpful. I believe the one catfish one is signed Norimitsu(?). The older piece with the scholars on it appears to have different colors of metals including silver and gold (I think Regards
