IMHO You are correct, I believe. My Batto Sensei says It appears that this was set up as a Kobusho koshirae, and probably used as you say. This samurai probably inherited it from a teacher or someone very astute in swordsmanship with this nakago ana placed as such.

As a retired military Explosives Expert, and a martial arts academy owner, my dojo is located literally right outside the Joint Expeditionary Base, I hear dozens and dozens of stories about “combat” this or that. It’s amazing that I almost never meet the Cook! But, I have personally given as a gift a nice “G.I. Field conversion” knife, made from a broken wakizashi recovered on Tarawa and taken home, to my Sensei who is a retired US Marine. He has it displayed at his academy in Oklahoma.

Good afternoon, a friend of mine (I will not out him as he clearly does not know) displayed this sword and stated “this was taken off of a Japanese soldier in Iwo Jima. I almost believed it until I zoomed in. Why do people believe this crap?!? It’s clearly NOT a Japanese sword, however the story was believed and my friend still feels the piece “has so much history” that I just can’t say anything. I love this dudes show, but you guys have to see 😁

The last pic of this saya above shows the back of the hole that you can “see through” in pic 2 (below attached, you can see the church leg rail through it) so that one pretty sure is a round. “Slug still in” statement above is assumed. It could be anything

Good afternoon to you all, I understand this tsuba is not in any condition of good but wanted any info you may have. Looks to be missing pretty much all of the zogan, and the mon seem to be missing. Looking at it seems to be that it was a solid plate with the carvings of the tack and then the Ana were added at a later date. Comes on a large katana with kiri style mon menuki. size is 77mm pretty much all around. Respectfully Ron

General Officer’s Sword Translation Help

From the pics…I feel like the same may be artificial, the seppa are replacements, the tassel doesn’t look authentic, and the mei is the Showato style…imo a Franken-sword -
On these types of auctions, where they don’t let you bid if you’re out of the country, how do different countries win these? Do they have someone local who gets it shipped to them and then they ship to the winner?? I’m just curious what the approach is. Thank you

It’s a Chinese made katana. Not a lot of value. Regards -
On a scale of 0-10, how fake is this sword?

Help to identify knife please
Ron M replied to Sarah piddock's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
Hi, what does the other side of the blade show? IMO (guess) this was initially a dinner knife, using a kozuka as handle. The knife appears to be electroplated “EP over A” which would be suitable to eat with. -
Age of this Wakizashi? Any thoughts?

Not much to say, except the fittings seems decent. -
Just a small detail I have read once..drawing in a boshi is called something like Katachi Tsuke and there are several ways to do it. It is an art, and its value is highly regarded.

Thank you for the responses. Well, hypothetically, if there is a hagire in EVERY single one of the choji parts of the hamon then I am trying to understand how that particular thing would have happened…so someone just beat the Christmas out of it?? Or did TIME do its damage? It just seems odd if ALL of them have a break. I am utterly trying to understand a situation where the entire swords’ hamon becomes brittle and all of its main characteristics seem to have failed all at the same time. Regards

Hello to you who respond to my query. a hypothetical question: if you found a wakizashi, and the nakago indicates that it was cut down by a smith and then he re-signed it as such stating he did the suriage, but the blades hamon (that is a match for the original maker) has several hagire in the choji features….what do you think happened?? (Hypothetically, let’s say the signature of the smith who did the suriage is a famous smith himself). Any thoughts are welcome and thank you
