  1. Hi Dee Like George Welcome to the forum Lots of knowledgeable people here The craft of the Japanese sword is a good starting point unless you already have one It pretty much explains the whole process of making a Japanese sword and isn’t it that expensive I would buy a higher end sword as the one you mentioned but I’m in the 2-3000 range unless it’s a good deal . I agree with George it’s a interesting discussion and it gave me the answer I was looking for and then some Steve
  2. Firstly I want to thank everyone for their help determining how long it takes to forge my swords I feel like a pebble compared to a boulder who are much more knowledgeable I am I bought books and discussing with others on the forum has helped but i know there’s much more to learn Thanks Steve
  3. it makes sense considering how much time spent to make a good RJT sword
  4. Yes George I was trying to determine how long it would MORINOBU and KANENOBU but you would probably have to determine how many they made rather then than the number of traditional ones were produced Which is probably hard to know
  5. Yes Thanks Bruce maybe we will get a better idea on numbers or a rough one ? Great information though
  6. Thanks Bruce and Fooey 😁That’s 5 years for 1941-1945 but they were making swords during the China war and before Taking that under consideration 10 per month times how many years?
  7. Thanks Ray I do have the craft of Japanese swords the process i know . I will read to again I know their were alot of variables to consider I was trying to get a ball park but I guess it’s hard to know but I do appreciate your input Steve
  8. Hi I’m using the 2 swords as a reference My questions are how dose how long dose it take to forge each one I believe Tamahagane were used as well I know the forging process takes some time do to the many folds, heating process polish and wrapping of the tsuka Maybe 1 week 2 or longer? Because there was a war going on how did the Japanese find have this much time spent traditional sword such as these Steve

  14. Can anyone translate the kaji inside the hat? Thanks so much steve
  15. Bruce I hope these photos are enough
  16. I am going to strip the swords as pointed out and weigh them separately I will also take photos and post them for John Thanks Steve
  17. I don’t have a gram scale I’m thinking it’s probably a denser steel which leaves me with another question Is denser steel better ? I’m thinking probably stronger I understand the variables fittings scabbard scale and other things But thanks for all opinions They are cool swords Me favorites I will try and get some measurements I’ll get some pictures and post them Thanks 😊 Steve
  18. What I do is stand on the scale get my weight than hold the sword and subtract the difference Both swords were the same weight The longer sword is wider and thicker that’s what’s confusing Maybe John’s right about about the density of steels ? Because one is star stamped the adding of tamahagane But shouldn’t matter because both swords should have tamahagane I may be wrong if I remember after 1943 the star wasn’t used So that shouldn’t matter I think is unusual they both was exactly the same one being thicker and longer yet it’s the same weight
  19. I have a question regarding the weight of these 2 swords Both weight exactly the same Yet MORINOBU is longer and thicker than Kanenobu yet it weighs the same as Kanenobu is it because Tamahagane was used or maybe was folded more?
  20. Hi Daniel you show it priced at 3400 but than it’s 3500 ?
  21. Hi Daniel It is a beautiful polish My polisher lives here in Las Vegas Maybe not as good as yours Just curious How much did it cost you? Unfortunately you never recoup the money you put in it However it’s worth every penny after seeing how spectacular it looks
