  1. The latest addition to my collection. Old blade, civil tsuba and an inscription by a soldier of the RAF Regiment on the leather combat cover. G.J. Southard RAFR Malaya 1945.
  2. Bruce, the reinforcement band is an interesting addition. Thanks for sharing.
  3. Hi Chris, beautiful sword. Is the tassel made of leather or is it just my bad eyes?
  4. Beautiful sword. My sword in the first post has also a long nagasa. 72.5 cm.
  5. Hi Thomas, that sounds like a good explanation!
  6. @PNSSHOGUNJohn, the crocodile cover is stunning!
  7. @Scogg Sam, the name tag is a nice bonus. It's a pity the tag is damaged. Otherwise is was a great start for a research project. Thanks for sharing.
  8. Bruce, That is an unusual cover. I like it. Thanks for sharing.
  9. Bruce, that is something I also want to know.
  10. Never seen a lined combat cover. That's very interesting. Do you have a photo of the cover?
  11. Hi Paris, Numbering is a good idea. Just added the numbers.
  12. And an other one. Number 3.
  13. Here is an other one. Number 2.
  14. I forgot to add this photos.
  15. To start a thread about leather combat covers and all the variations out there. Let me show the first one. A civilian sword used in ww2. Regards, Ed Number 1.
  16. Hi Rob, no need to say sorry. It's always good to read other members opinion about things. There is a lot of knowledge around here and good to share. Regards, Ed
  17. Hi Rob, I know about shrinkage and sloppy covers made off finer and soft leather but this one is not sloppy at all. The leather looks very thick and sturdy. In my opinion that is suspicious. Maybe we should start a separate thread about leather combat covers. Always good to see some original examples and there are a lot of variations. Regards, Ed
  18. This sword is highly suspect in my opinion. All the details mentioned by others are strange, and what also strikes me is the extremely shrunken leather sheath, while it fits very loosely around the scabbard. If leather shrinks, it's very odd that it only shrinks lengthwise while the circumference has actually increased.
  19. Thank you all very much for your help! Moriyama-san that is really impressive. Thanks!
  20. Hope one of you can help me with this signature. Thanks in advance. Regards, Ed
  21. I agree with Conway. It is a German Hirschfänger.
  22. If the Japanese reused a foreign blade it is unlikely that they don't make use of a habaki. More likely a post war fix. Just my opinion.
  23. I'm not a knife expert but the knife bears a strong resemblance to the so-called Shanghai dagger.
  24. @Ray Singer Thank you very much for your help! I agree, definitely not from the Kamakura period. Hopefully the nihotoclub.com is online soon. Regards, Ed
  25. If I'm right the signature starts with Soshu ju ... Can one of you help me with the rest of the signature. The picture is bad but it's the only one I've got. Thanks in advance.
