  4. Hello, I am curious if the translation on this sword is correct since I cannot find anything on the smith name given. Thank you, Matt.
  5. Will post shortly! Good Suggestion! Thanks, Matt
  6. I couldn't find him either, it's curious. What does it mean? A fake signature? Something added later to make the sword worth more? Maybe some sort of fake name by another smith? Matt
  7. Uh oh, appears I might have brought some extra competition to the auction Thank you for your help guys Matt
  8. Thank-you for your response. I just couldn't find anything about that part about the sharpness, very interesting. Thank you for your help! Matt
  9. Hello forum members! I have been searching for a nice Kai Gunto for some time, and I think I have found one I maybe interested in, however I am unsure about the mei, or anything else. For example, I have never seen a signature refer to the sharpness of the blade like it does on this one. Through some research I know that the yamada family did sword testing, but signatures about the sharpness dont appear on Showa blades. This leads me on to believe it is a fake signature. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/KATANA-ANTIQUE-Japanese-LONG-SWORD-69-4cm-SIGNED-SAGEN-WWII-NAVY-GUNTO/142591654429?hash=item21331ffa1d:g:eigAAOSwpuFaFA3T Thanks Matt

  11. I'll take a stab, although I am a noobie, this can be fun! My initial gut instinct was that it was a fake, just the white and yellow is just too white and yellow, but I cannot actually see anything wrong with the "production?" or the style of the tassel. Waiting to be corrected Matt
  12. Thanks a lot for all help! I will post the rest of the sword sooner or later! Matt
  13. Thank-you very much, that was an emotional rollercoaster! Matt
  14. I made the Post on Reddit. . . Is it possible that this is a gemei? Matt
  15. Thank - you Jean. If you guys have any other comments I am happy to hear them! Matt
  16. Sorry, I don't fully understand. Matt.
  17. Thanks for your help! Matt
  18. Unfortunately, buyee won't even let me bid on items they have under "weapons". The only way I can think of getting around it is making a new account with an American address. (since I am from Canada). Matt
  19. Hello! I have read about komonjo on here and am well aware of how he often sells gimei. I am looking for my second sword to accompany the Type 3 nagamitsu I purchased from here. This seems like a decent package to me, but, I am new to this hobby and would like a more educated opinion. Thank-you. http://www.ebay.com/itm/H07-Japanese-Samurai-Sword-WW-II-IJA-Army-Shin-Gunto-Masahide/132250401189?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 Matt
  20. Thanks again everyone for the added advice. In the last few days I have purchased some books, and I have learned so much. Not everything is super clear, but that is to be expected. I understand why so many of you want me to stay away from ebay and figure out more of what I want. I find the more I browse ebay and research every sword the more I pick up, it is a good way for me to learn while the other books I ordered arrive. Once again I appreciate all the advice, and will probably post about what I think I value in a sword and ask advice on how to hunt one down. Thank-you very much, Matt.
  21. Thank-you all for your words of encouragement, I will take all of this into consideration when moving forward with my interest. Any further advice from other members will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Matt
  22. I have been burned, I bought a sword from an antique store and it turned out to be fake, now I am very nervous and extremely nervous when looking at others, especially online. I would appreciate any response on the swords that I have found on ebay, every one of of them have one or two things that make me nervous about their authenticity, or they are what the seller says they are. There is a wide range of swords here, I am not looking for one particular type, but more in a price range. the max I want to spend is ~1,000Cdn, Hopefully you guys can help me find my first real sword and I can collect more and more as my knowledge, and my interest grows in this hobby. http://www.ebay.com/itm/MINTY-WWII-Japanese-Officers-Samurai-Sword-NIHONTO-WAKIZASHI-Shin-Gunto-TACHI-/222307179363?hash=item33c28a5b63:g:dqkAAOSwXeJYHOPr#shpCntId http://www.ebay.com/itm/WWII-Japanese-Army-Officer-Samurai-Sword-Scabbard-Nagakuni-Shinto-c-1620/381841631309?_trksid=p2047675.c100010.m2109&_trkparms=aid%3D555012%26algo%3DPW.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D40146%26meid%3D951d9446cdc44c63b145393748a6cf84%26pid%3D100010%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D222307179363 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Japanese-WWll-Army-officers-sword-in-mountings-Katsumasa-hot-stamp-tassel/351897426035?_trksid=p2047675.c100010.m2109&_trkparms=aid%3D555012%26algo%3DPW.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D40146%26meid%3Dd7f42fe1b00b43aa9007e387d15b6b5f%26pid%3D100010%26rk%3D6%26rkt%3D6%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D381841631309 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antique-17th-century-Japanese-Sword-Samurai-Wakizashi-Katana-in-Edo-Koshirae-/322319246865?hash=item4b0bb96611:g:FdIAAOSwHMJYH0p0 Thanks for your replies, Matt
