  1. Moriyoya San: ありがとう The service you supply the members here is second to none and much appreciated. Yes indeed this sword is now in Eastern Canada !!! The papers with the blade say 3 bodies as you correctly identify and I am sure some of the judges must have smiled when finding an error in one of Dr. Sato's Sayagaki !!!!
  2. I recently acquired this blade by Fujiwara Ietede which is papered but I did not get a translation of the Sayagaki. I took three pictures and hopefully they will be clear enough for someone much smarter than I to translate. With thanks in anticipation of some assistance. .
  3. I certainly didn't suggest or recommend that the Tsuka be immersed in water and they cleaning solution would not have been in contact with the same for more than 20 seconds and considering how long it has been dried it would take hours to soak up enough liquid to affect its composition. Benzene or any other chemical that is used in dry cleaning could be used on the Tsuka-ito even if silk and yes brushing roughly would break up the fibres. Gentle is as always the way to go.
  4. Well as no one answered I assumed it would be on line and it was in many variations - all similar - mild detergent like Woolite, hot water, toothbrush, gentle and - all better !!
  5. Is it considered OK to carefully remove stains and coloring on Tsukamaki and the menuki? What would anyone suggest as the most gentle way - ?
  6. I appreciate the fact that you closed the conversation BUT at some point you really should submit it for shinsa and if not in Tokyo but at a nearer site where they are holding a shinsa - whatever you paid for your already beautiful blade - papered and authenticated it will guarantee it is cared for properly for many years. Take care
  7. Interesting item but may be outside the expertise of most of this group - that said I am sure there is at least one member who may be able to help you or send you to some other site that may. Just welcome from another Canuck and Happy Canada Day !!!
  8. Yes it is - first generation Ietada who was the second son of Ieshige, a younger brother of the blacksmith Katsukuni and the family name was Suzaki. This Japanese sword is of the first generation because the second generation usually signed with Gashu Daisho-ji Fujiwara Ietada. Here are a couple more pics
  9. Impressive blade Signed Kashu ju Fujiwara Ietada (Fujiwara Ietada, a resident of Kaga Province) | Edo period, 17th century, and a tameshigiri for 3 body cut. Only have the one picture I snapped after I set it on the stand in the display cabinet and its so nice outside it may be a while before I get to take some more. The koshira is black lacquer, tsuba, iron with dragon theme, NBTHK papers.
  10. As per another's suggestion are you hesitant to use acetone to try and remove some of the paint from the Tsuba and other metal parts? It may reveal some lighter carvings and effects that are under the heavy coat of ugly red !
  11. With the worksheet from the NTHK I am not sure why you are putting much credence in the "second authority". Considering he stated the sword was mumei, that would be the end of my paying any attention to him at all! Is he interested perhaps in purchasing the blade from you ?
  12. This blade listed at Sotheby's Auction house expected to raise 12-18000 GBP recently sold for over 35000 GBP !!! https://www.sothebys.com/en/buy/auction/2021/the-samurai-Japanese-arms-and-armour-2/a-katana-attributed-to-chiyozuru-morhiro I can't understand how the hammer price got so high as I have a blade by the same smith that I paid little more than 10% of that amount. It could be these abberations from reality that are driving the market up as I can't see the purchaser of this selling it for 10 thousand dollars any time soon

  13. This is a strange hamon as it gets closer to the yokote it gets very wild and not any particular pattern - it is also quite far from the edge. Would some of that activity be known as Tobi-Yaki and is it Hitatsuri in that area?
  14. You actually accomodate these types for about 10 seconds longer that I would and not only here - I would make sure he is out of business on any and all venues he is on ! True collectors do not need to deal with these types of people or dealers.
  15. DONE _ Sorry about that - Pain in the ass 0 MAC are good for some stuff 0 others not so much
  16. I bought this around 25 years ago and it was in shirasaya and got it for next to nothing. No papers no signature, I think it is Shinto, it has a masame type hada and the hamon is all over the place. It is a nice sword but I know less than nothing about it - so - thoughts ??? Thanks Brian - never even noticed the format as they download automatically from the phone
  17. https://www.sothebys.com/en/buy/auction/2023/the-samurai-Japanese-arms-and-armour?utm_source=sendgrid&cmp=email_auction_opening_L23225_03-May-23&utm_campaign_id=&utm_campaign_name=&locale=en&utm_content=auction_opening&utm_campaign_group=&utm_campaign=auction_notification_L23225&utm_medium=email&utm_term=03-May-23 Oddly enough there are two blades being auctioned that are by smiths I have in my meager little bunch !
  18. You are taking on a quite monumental task and actually doing it while learning how it is done. Not to belittle what you are attempting it may be an idea to continue the learning and slow down a bit on the doing and understand why it is done as it is. It may at some point turn out that it is nearly impossible to duplicate the proper way to do it and in that case you can step back - or not and do what makes you happy. As long as you know that is the case and above all cause no harm !
  19. Pretty much synonomous but I have seen Kodogo used for smaller pieces of sword furniture like fuchi/kashira and menuki.
  20. Looks slightly different doesn;t it !!! How did you connect with Rossi in Italy - what area of Canada are you from as I am guessing Toronto. His turn around time is amazing compared to many of the other toshigis - no problems with the shipping etc?
