  1. Well I do love a good debate, and the added views don't hurt either! <3 As stated, I'm simply selling this for a neighbor to help her out, so if this debate helps me to that end, fire on folks!!! BUT lets all learn something and be open minded to another person's ideas, facts, and all contributions. Always assume the person you're arguing with knows something you don't Also with that being said, if I have priced this incorrectly, either too high, or too low, please feel free to PM directly and let me know! I tried to price it based on the perceived value of what I see and the package overall as a whole for the condition its in, but this doesn't take many things into account! Warmly, Sal'
  2. A few more pictures, and links to a honestly bad attempt to capture each side with video. The details are just really hard to capture with my phones conditions, spends too much time in the forge with me lol https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/penjsi0proa6dhemrejao/Video-Dec-16-2025-9-33-48-AM.mov?rlkey=junxv529ya4u7s1jsfd8zlgo4&st=vxls8wqv&dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/rn2xhm02xzityutxewvx9/Video-Dec-16-2025-9-36-47-AM.mov?rlkey=nbnp071m0uv99q520oam0o865&st=peayi37x&dl=0
  3. Thank Jean!!! I'll see if i can get some better pictures of the blade for everyone tomorrow The koshirae in general are indeed original, but as noted the saya was touched up, and I believe he may have touched up the lacquer on the fuchi as well.
  4. Ubu Mumei Wakizashi in original koshirae for Sale: Nagasa/Blade Length : 13 7/8th inches from tsuba to tip of kissaki. Sori : 4.4mm approx. Hamon Type : More of a Hoso-suguha Jihada : Very tight, too tight for me (and my novice eyes) to say one or another but in some areas in the right light you can see some nice light waves Flaws : There is hazy rust scattered throughout the blade, none active, light scratched visible in certain lighting, and some green build up under the habaki, though the habaki is easily removable and not stuck. Sword Location : Tallahassee Florida Will ship to : World wide Payment Methods Accepted : Paypal preferred, friends and family or you can cover the fees. But I also use cash app. Price and Currency : $1750 USD OBO. Other Info and Full Description : Selling this as a favor for a neighbor. She was given this as one of her wedding gifts as she left Japan. She doesn't have much information on it but she does have whats looks to be the original registration paper for it. So if anyone has more information please feel free to comment with any and all observations! Blade is in overall great condition, and though a fresh polish would help see more, there is still a lot that can be seen and appreciated in its current condition. Edge is in great condition with no knicks, blade and edge is straight, and is about 5.75mm thick! Looks to be a polished and lacquered buffalo horn kashira (could be wrong lol) and a lacquered soft metal fuchi, menuki looks to be monkey themed, and tsuba is a iron nature/mountain theme and is signed (haven't been able to translate signature yet.) . Saya has been restored as it was in poor shape; cracked, missing lacquer, and buffalo horn. I had Wally Hostetter do the work on this one, keeping as much of the original buffalo horn as he could, saving the core of the saya, and matching the original lacquer very well. Thanks everyone! Sal' from Koala Forge
  5. Just wanted to share some pictures of a custom mount that I finished up for an antique tanto The design is based off a photo that was supplied to me by the customer, I wanted it to match the overall design and feel, but also try not to rip off or copy the exact original design. I made all the koshirae including the habaki. Both habaki and "tsuba" were given a rokusho patina. No more words, just photos Let me know what you guys think! Ill include a picture of the original for reference Warmly, Sal' of Koala Forge, Formerly Jizamurai Customs.
  6. Bump and price drop to $400 for this week only, My wedding is Saturday and would love extra cash to pay for things!!!
  7. That would have been my suggestion as well, have a 3d template crafted that matches your nakago exactly. I almost took such a commision a few years back and would have had no issues with it. Though with the entire blade not being present to get a good feel for the balance and look as you carve a new tsuka it may still be beneficial for them to have the old tsuka for those reasons? ( while starting to carve tsuka, before I decide where to do the chanel for the nakago relative to how I plan to angel the outside of the tsukas shape, I will check multiple times the angle at which the handle seems to be aligned with the overall blade shape, length, sori, etc to ensure it flows properly with the blade/saya.) Just my two cents
  8. Hey there everyone! Looking to sell a tanto, it's it fairly good condition and good state of polish. A few nail biters can be felt on it's edge but very hard to see, harder to photograph lol I made a new habaki for it as well. I left the habaki plain because I was going to also finish mounting it myself and didn't know what design or style to do the habaki in just yet. This is a great project blade if someone wants to mount it to match their own blade! I don't know many of the other details or origins of this blade, if you can tell approximately the era, style, or any details at all, please feel free to chime-in in the comments! :D Just a tad over 10 1/4 inch Nagasa 5.8mm thick at it's spine 25.8mm width at its base. Price is just $500 shipped CONUS as is. OR as Little as $1,100 shipped CONUS in simple buffalo horn aikuchi mounts and open to further customization options. Getting married 12/14 of this year (yupp just three weeks away!) and need to get a few projects sold
  9. Here's a W2 honyaki gyuto with a nashiji finish that i just got done making. I'm calling her "Dark Koala" lol My forge is called Koala Forge, and all of my knives have a Koala stamp that I had made to mimic the types of arsenal and mon stamps found on nakago (think turtle stamp but with a koala lol) Comments are very appreciated!!!! I'm still learning what people like overall, and trying to blend that with my style I wanted to do a gyuto that had more touches of the traditional kind of work I do with my katana or tanto making/mounts. I also wanted it to have a very polished yet vintage/antique/nihonto vibe to it overall. Hand forged to rough dimensions including its length, overall profile, and distal taper. The blade is hand sharpened on Japanese whetstones up to 1000 grit only and stropped. Wa handle was made inhouse and tang was burned in for it's final fit. I left the blue, purple, and straw coloured oxides on near the ferrule after I soften the tang. Blade was treated to about 62-63 RC Thanks for looking everyone! W2 Steel 6,000 year old Bog Oak handle with hand carved and ribbed Aluminum Ferrule Saya is Curly Maple on the sides, Cherry for the center and a wrought iron Koala coin with a Bog oak saya pin. Weight: 244g Edge Length: 207mm Blade height at heel: 66.73mm Blade thickness tapers from 3.4mm to 2.2mm before the tip progresses down. Balance is right above my touch mark 😊
  10. Picked up a blade to mount for myself, labeled as an Uchigatana. Almost finished the habaki already and wanted to plan overall dimensions, and this is where i'm stumped. Obviously a more petit blade, modern but made seemingly well. nothing spectacular honestly. Here are blades overall stats from the purchase: Blade length(nagasa, 刃長, はちょう): 68.4 cm Bottom width (motohaba, 元幅,もとはば) : 2.8 cm Top width(sakihaba, 先幅,さきはば) : 1.9 cm Blade thickness(motokasane, 元重 ね) : 0.68 cm Top thickness( sakikasane, 先重ね) : 0.5 cm Curvature of the sword(sori, 反り): 1.2 cm Nakago (after i take away space needed for habaki) will only be 15.2cm or about 6 inches. Usually when I carve out a new tsuka i like to limit the excess wood past the nakago to 1.5 inches to 3 inch's at absolute most. Now this is a general rule of thumb for me, but i was curious to see if anyone knew of standards for uchigatana vs katana in this matter? How much shorter, if at all, were uchigatana tsuka? Anyone want to chime in on what they feel a blade with these measurements should have tsuka wise? It's a modern blade, unsigned, most likely just a relatively nicer made blade from china with a more classical/traditionalish polish, so i also wouldn't mind shortening the blade length to give myself a slightly longer nakaago and redrilling the mekugi ana. I've done 15/20 mounts but always on katana, and the measurements of this blade, specifically the short nakago, have me wondering about tsuka length for the first time in a long time. Thanks for the input!!
  11. Hello, I don't post on here often enough, but I feel my life has been truly enriched by Ford and the work he does, and how always willing he is to share all of his knowledge. I want to know if there is a paypal address or other method that would be preferred if we want to donate to Ford and his family to show our support through more than just words. Thanks, Sal'
  12. Thanks John! Also any help on the saya or any info on the blade at all would help Cheers, Sal
