  1. I agree with brian. some issues get blown out of proportion. as he mentioned new money is made and does the old money become worthless? NO! now if the NBTHK themselves started advertising and printing write ups stating that there will be new papers and the old should become worthless ,then i know myself would be in anger and question their reason and motive behind the whole fiasco. if 100 cars out of 100,000 made have an issue are all garbage? NO! they get recalled and corrected. as brian said this situation will work itself out. just because a small portion of papers have been found fake does not mean we grant them all garbage.. what about all the folks that have attended shinsa or sent there items in, they know their papers are good! I know most fellow collectors are very good at judging a good sword, reading papers, matching papers to blades and calling gimmies...ect. and the collectors that are not so good have forums like this one to get help. as brian said its not hard to follow backwards down the line and find the sketch bags that did this, might even be one person? in a community like this where we are always on guard even 3 papers coming in fake could make this kind of wave...heck do we even know how many have been found? the fact that its come to light tells me the cats out of the bag and whom ever was behind it will be running scared and will not be proceeding with making any new fake papers.. and if the so called papers are real but the picture and seal are fake does this mean they did the writing too? if these papers are so highly guarded, how the heck does one get there hands on some to print up?? if this is true and the papers are the real papers the NBTHK use and not made elsewhere then i have this question.. was there a theft? or whom is the person in charge of taking care of these papers?
  2. thank you chris for this information. do we have more specific info on the differences of the fake papers opposed to the real? i know you say picture and stamp, sure would be nice to see a fake compared to the real thing, just to see how close they are, if the only way to tell them apart is to call the NBTHK that is a little disturbing..
  3. thanks chris for taking the time to comment and wishing me good luck, cheers , I like the hada and hamon on this one. i guess if its been polished quite a few times that would mean quite a few people thought it was worth it :D I will be submitting to shinsa, yes it was cheap to buy, but i dont believe that is any reason for it not to be shoshin, we mustn't judge a swords merits by the value its sells for. Ive scored papered swords for half of there market value. and on the same token overpaid for some not so good ones as well. in the swords defence it was misadvertised, wrong swordsmith, headline error and it also ended at 1am in the morn. mid week, everyone was sleepy sleepy..LOL ill keep ya posted on how i make out. thanks everyone, cheers
  4. thanks Barry, I indeed take the chance. seems good to me, clean mei, good strokes. studying the mei of a few examples on line and in the markus sesko book it appears good to me. I will know better once in hand and i will take better pictures and post them for you folks.
  5. thank you for your time and validation K Morita. cheers
  6. scrolling through some auctions and seen this one that ended. ebay item number 291244895809 here is the link, dont know if it works? http://www.ebay.com/itm/291244895809? anyway looks like a nice wak. the seller states its tadahiro ?? HUH.. but im reading Hizen no kuni saga ju masahiro ... i believe 1st gen. am i wrong folks??
  7. first off let me say no disrepect to John here , but WOW John!, I cant say i agree with what you did here, there are a lot of NMB with limited funds, work very hard and save for that one sword, they search many many hours for a deal! and well you admitted to kiboshing that dream for them  using that logic Im assuming then if you see an item for sale that you really want for your collection and the seller sets the price himself at say $1000 but you know its worth $2000 I really hope then you will offer him the extra $1000 :D I myself if i see a deal and not interested myself will post it here for another member to get, why not? everyone needs a deal once in a while, its what keeps us going on the hunt! Ive met many folks that had the attitude (if i cant have it for that price no one can) anyway back to the sword... in this economy there are way too many deals out there to be found and if you are patient some deals you would never think you would find ,( providing John dont see them first  ) there is no logic or reason to take such risks on expensive blades with no returns, unable to view in person,no papers and in need of some serious restoration. just my two cents, for what ever thats worth....
  8. lets be modest here ..so someone pays say even $1500 then say a modest $3000 complete restoration, your still at $4500 for a blade that still needs papers, could be gimei, and lets face it as ive already pointed out a very tired worn blade that in my eyes may not even polish good. I have purchased several TBH swords in the $5000-$6000 range in beautiful polish and complete with koshirae... Just a thought folks...
  9. my point exactly stephen  hence why I said " Ha- Machi area" and not Ha-Machi its self.. you are a little more blunt than I, I was simply being discreet. I knew someone would tune in... :D
  10. I will refrain from detailed commenting on this blade until auction ends but i would suggest looking close at the last 5 inches of blade also the Ha-Machi area....
  11. thank you very much chris for taking the time to help and shed some light my direction. cheers
  12. Hey folks , picked up this nice tanto today.cutting edge is 7 inches. looking for some validation on the mei, i think i see Hizen no kuni Yoshiie, can anyone validate that? also what are your thoughts on the blade as to time frame? mei? I see several smiths by this name but not able to pin point it yet...ect.. all comments welcome and thank you in advance. cheers
  13. thank you to all that tuned in, thanks Joe and peter for your comments. I guess a shinsa will settle this... will keep you all posted as to the findings. cheers
  14. thank you Chris and Gabriel for taking the time to pay compliments, much appreciated .. cheers.
  15. I see many issues ..a tired blade with kissaki issues... Guess $200 is a good deal if ya want to flip it for $600 or so... but if collecting to keep In my opinion if collecting the $200 could have been put towards something much better with not so many issues... sorry that tip/ kissaki looks broke, over polished and deformed to me, hope no offence taken here and is just my opinion, for what ever thats worth
  16. as promised here are some pics of "blue frost" by sukehira.. it has TB Hozon papers by NBTHK.

  21. Gabriel that is a funny story, thank you for sharing and thank you for your comment. good question Matt, Im going out on a limb here and saying it was done by the swordsmith himself, strokes and comparison with the rest are consistent in my eye.yes i will get you guys some good pics of the sword, cheers.Jeremy scott.
  22. yes Stephen cool for sure! ... one could only imagine its meaning? any thoughts or guesses?? Jeremy scott.
