Okay, and thanks for all of the great answers, much appreciated. I think I have my answer, when a polish is done on the blade, small minute layers of steel is removed, and the Hamon is still present, as it does penetrate through the metal into several layers of the steel. Brian

Okay, I have seen before and after pics of some really bad blades, rusted, pitted, no hamon, or hada present, but when I see the same blade in new full polish, there is beautiful hada, hamon, I would think since polishing is actually removing small layers of metal. My question is, is the hamon embedded all the way through the metal of the sword, or just a top layer only, like the hada is part of the entire metal make up of the sword. I was wondering when they do a full polish is there a chance that the hamon could be polished away. I hope I did not confuse anyone, but this has really been bugging me, I'm reading the books, and looking up online, and cannot find the answer. thanks Brian

I would love to see the blade, if you dont mind. Brian -
@ Jean A very wise saying, and yes from now on out, I will only message certain people in here about the item(s), as this has happened to me once, and i guess there are some members in here that have no idea what honor, and morals mean. I would never go in and bid on an item that someone in here has expressed interest in, I would not like it done to me so why would I do it to someone else, but I'm starting to see who would do that exact same thing to other members, and yes they will be added to my foe list. Thanks Jean, much appreciated. Brian

@ Chris The last time I said it was an ebay auction, I had someone that did not know a thing about it, and as soon as i put it out on here , I had an member go in and message the seller, and buy it from me, I know this to be a fact, because the seller of that sword actually tried to pull a bidding war with me and the other guy saying the other guy mentioned that I had posted it in here for everyone to see. Plus in this post, I never once said it was mine, I was only asking questions about it, nothing more. Brian
-
@ Jussi Please read over my post, I never said anywhere that it was mine, I messaged the seller about it, he said he would end the auction early at a set price, so please show me where I said anywhere in the post that I said it was mine, I only asked questions about it, and that's it, please re-read what i wrote. I thought it was mine, but never posted it was mine, as I agreed to his asking price, and then all of a sudden he changed his mind on it, because someone else did what i said. I NEVER SAID ANYWHERE THAT IT WAS MINE, IN ANY OF THE POST I MADE, NO WHERE.... Brian

@ Brian I actually went back and looked, as I thought I never said it was mine, I did say i was working out a deal on it, as i have been talking with the owner of it, and yes i did say that it would be my third Nihonto, no where in any of my post did i say it was mine yet. I was asking questions about it, and nothing more, please show me where i said it was mine, I don't think I did say that anywhere. Brian
-
@ Paul Yes, i agree with you , but on this one, I originally posted just questions about it, as I wanted to make sure the members in here had a chance to look it over until I agreed upon his price. If you look at all my post, no where did I say it was mine yet, I was asking questions about it, and that's it. I learned my lesson the last time, this time i actually had worked out the deal with the owner just yesterday that i would buy it at his asking price, i never said anywhere that it was mine, I only asked questions about, and the reason why I did not post it in the ebay section was what happened was what i was afraid was going to happen, someone in here saw it, and made a offer to buy it , trying to buy it out from under me, so to say. Paul, I did not say it was mine yet, I was just asking questions about it, and such. Brian

Because I have talked with the owner of it, and I have agreed to higher price on it, Not sure why he has not ended the auction on it, unless he thinks he will get more out of it, I told him what i would pay for it, and not a penny more. Some people amaze me on they do things, and the main reason why I didn't want to post any pics of it, the last time I did that someone in here went and out bid me, and bought it under me, as i know it happened as the guy messaged me, and told me that the winner saw the sword from where I had posted it in these forums. So I'm a little hesitant on posting them in here now, I thought I had the deal locked in on it, unless it happened to me again. Brian

I'm happy with it, as this would be my third Nihonto, and the fact this is not an ordinary one, or possibly was an Naginata at one time, and it is in full polish, with complete mounts, and family crest just makes it so much better. If this was an Wakizashi, I wonder where it's big brother is, and what he would look like ? Brian
-
@ Franco There is no yokote line, here are the pics, I have been talking with the seller on this, we have pretty much came to an agreement on the price, I just wanted to get everyone's opinion on it. I like the way it looks, as it does have hada present, and the hamon looks like notare midare to me. Habaki is Gin-gise, or silver covering copper base. The cutting edge is 40.5cm(16 inches), and the Nakago is 13.8cm(5.3 inches) which has beautiful file marks with two holes, The blade is very thick (8mm on the center Mune line) and wide (3.5cm). Brian

Okay, I dont want to sound stupid, or have someone think this post is an abomination or anything. But how often would an Naginata be reshaped into an Wakizashi, Of course the blade would not be signed, as that part of the blade would have been cut off in the process. And would this increase the value of an item ? Brian

MIHARA MASATSUGU from the Koto Period 1550 I just bought

Yes, the blade was accidentally put on eBay for sale by his wife, this has been taken care of as he has received the funds for it. I had to go to Parma , Ohio for an MRI on the surgery I have to have done on my right elbow, and when i didn't respond to his wife, she had thought I didn't want the blade anymore, and of course she didn't ask her husband. I hate going to the VA, but it's gotta be done. Problem solved. Brian -

@ Jean How much would the chip in the blade hurt it, if i was to send it off to have papers done to it. Would they reject it for papers for it having the chip in the blade ? Brian -
