  1. Dear Bob: Thanks for the additional information. Regards, Bill E. Sheehan (Yoshimichi)
  2. Dear Moriyama-san: Thanks for clarifying that for me. Dear Jacques: Thanks for the oshigata and observations. Regards, Bill E. Sheehan (Yoshimichi)
  3. Dear Ray, Steve, and Moriyama: Thanks so much for the translations. Much appreciated. Moriyama-san: Is "Goshu Takagi" the name of a person or a saying or invocation? Regards, Bill E. Sheehan (Yoshimichi)
  4. Dear NMB members: I am having a bit of difficulty with this mei and translation. Hopefully someone can help. It just came into my office yesterday from an 83 year old gentleman. I am wondering if it is "Something (no) Kami Norinao," or maybe "Tsuda Omi (no) Kami Sukenao." I cannot tell if the date is 1521 +3, or if the date side has a special made for name or invocation, or what. If you think it could be by this "Sukenao," does anyone have a legit mei by this smith for comparison? It came in shirasaya with horn parts on the mekugi peg and the koiguchi. The blade is kind of slender, with two-piece silver habaki. Any help is appreciated. Regards, Bill E. Sheehan (Yoshimichi)
  5. Dear Moriyama-san: Thanks so much for the translation, and the additional Sukesada nakago/mei. It's much appreciated. Regards, Bill E. Sheehan (Yoshimichi)
  6. Dear Steve: Thanks for the reply. In John Yumoto's book at page 130, he lists Japanese eras. I wonder if the first two characters are "Bunki" (1501) or maybe "Genki" (1570)? I am stumped on the third kanji. Anyone else have a translation? Regards, Bill E. Sheehan (Yoshimichi)
  7. Dear NMB members: I need help deciphering this date kanji. Any help is appreciated. Regards, Bill E. Sheehan (Yoshimichi)
  8. Here are two pictures of the kanji on the opposite side of the nakago. Any help is appreciated. Regards, Bill E. Sheehan (Yoshimichi)
  9. Thanks for the replies, everyone. I'll try to load up a picture of the full tang on the other side of the nakago. Thanks again for helping. Regards, Bill E. Sheehan (Yoshimichi)
  10. Thanks, John. Helpful information. I'll look up the Type 8. Regards, Bill E Sheehan
  11. Thanks Jean and Peter: Jean: Does it appear Koto or Shinto, and are you feeling it is Gimei, and why? Peter: Do you think the mounts are special ordered, or Officer Grade? Regards, Bill E. Sheehan (Yoshimichi)
  12. Thanks, Uwe. Any feel for the mountings...Army, Navy? Regards, Bill E. Sheehan (Yoshimichi)
  13. Dear NMB Members: I need help translating this mei, and identifying these mounts. My best guess is "Bishu Osafune Sukemitsu." It looks Koto, late 1400's- early 1500's. It has a 28" nagasa. Your take? The mounts appear to be Army Cavalry, maybe special ordered to fit this ancestral blade. The guard is brass, but looks like a WWII cavalry steel guard. I am guessing an officer's special order sword mounts. Any help is greatly appreciated. Regards, Bill E. Sheehan (Yoshimichi)
  14. Dear Thomas, Trystan, and Bruce: Thanks for all of the additional information and links. Great job! Regards, Bill E. Sheehan (Yoshimichi)
  15. Gentlemen: Thanks so much for the comments. Great information! Regards, Bill E. Sheehan (Yoshimichi)
  16. Dear NMB member: I recently acquired this with other swords from a collection put together in the 70's and 80's. In reviewing a previous topic, I am wondering if this is an Emergency late war sword produced in China or Korea during the War. It appears to have the correct Japanese foul weather covered saya, similar looking tsuka, but a stamp on the tang I am not familiar with and do not recognize. Can anyone translate or identify this mark? Any comments are appreciated. Regards, Bill E, Sheehan (Yoshimichi)
  17. Dear Dale:

It looks like my last message did not go through. I  would be willing to sell the Kawari tsuba for $700, plus shipping, if interested, let me know.

    Regards,

  18. Dear Dale: I sent you a message. Regards, Bill E. Sheehan(Yoshimichi)
  19. Pictures of the sword. Regards, Bill E. Sheehan
  20. Wow! Thanks for all of the information on these fittings. The sword is very delicate, similar to a Boy's Day sword. The doll menuki would seem consistent with a sword given to a young person. I will attach a few photos of the sword shortly. Does this look like a child's sword, consistent with the fittings? Regards, Bill E. Sheehan
  21. Dear Dale: Thanks for the comment and information, I have attached some close up photos of the tsuba, Any idea on age or school? What is Kawari? Are these tsubas somewhat rare? Regards, Bill E Sheehan
  22. Does anyone have a kozuka or kogai for sale in the F/K motif? Regards, Bill E Sheehan
  23. Dear Chris: No signs of breakage. I have not seen this style tsuba before. Stumped. Regards, Bill E. Sheehan {Yoshimichi}
  24. Dear NMB members: I need help identifying these fittings: possible school or artist, age, etc. These just came out og a collection put together in the 60's. Any help is appreciated. Regards, Bill E. Sheehan (Yoshimichi)
  25. Dear NMB members: This item is sold. Thanks for looking. Regards, Bill E. Sheehan (Yoshimichi)
