SwordGuyJoe Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 All, I am looking for an oshigata for gendaito smith Sekimoto Yorimasa. He won special honorary seat at the 6th Shinsaku Nihonto Denrankai in 1941 and rated Jo Saku in the Tosho Banzuke, but I can't find anything on him. The assistance is very appreciated. Quote
k morita Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 Hi, I have his one oshigata. 関本 頼正 I'll upload a photo of oshigata here later. He lived in Aizu,Fukushima prefecture at that time. Quote
k morita Posted March 29, 2012 Report Posted March 29, 2012 Deleted Tang picture and a posting by K Morita. Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted April 4, 2012 Author Report Posted April 4, 2012 Thank you very much. Does it say anything else? I see that he was given an special honorary seat (I thought usually reserved for tosho leaders/teacher), but there is remarkably little out there on him. Thanks again! Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted April 24, 2012 Author Report Posted April 24, 2012 All, Given that during the 1941 exhibition, he was 72, I can understand why there wasn't much written on him in Showa. Any other resources? I have exhausted my book collection. Attached is a photo of the steel. Tanto is hira-zukura, kesho yasurime, kengyo nakagojiri, boshi is ko-maru to ko-maru sagari, hada appears either chirimen or konuka/nashiji (possibly masame, but grain seems to course), and hamon is O-Notare in nie deki. Looks like soshu tradition gendai tanto to me. Thoughts? Quote
k morita Posted April 24, 2012 Report Posted April 24, 2012 Hi Joe, The mei of your Tanto does not look clear. Quote
cabowen Posted April 24, 2012 Report Posted April 24, 2012 It looks like bar stock, oil quenched, to me..... Quote
Lindus Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 Do you like it?? Take care in taking comments to seiously Roy Quote
k morita Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 Joe, You should have uploaded the photographs of the Tanto when the first posting! Your Tanto is completely unrelated to Sekimoto Yorimasa! Quote
Brian Posted April 25, 2012 Report Posted April 25, 2012 Morita san, If you don't mind, then a repost of that oshigata and info would be very welcome for the future when someone searches this forum for info on this smith. Even though the tanto is unrelated, it will be a big help for anyone looking for info on the smith you posted about. Brian Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted April 26, 2012 Author Report Posted April 26, 2012 Well I certainly didn't mean to waste your time. It is a showa period tanto signed Yorimasa. Sekimoto Yorimasa was the only one I was able to find anything on, so I thought I would check the tanto against an oshigata - to which the "masa" kanji does not align at all. Do you have any idea which Yorimasa this is? Quote
chrisf Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 Have you checked out the Chikamasa tanto on ebay?Is it the same one or are they being knocked out in bundles? Quote
