NihontoEurope Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 Hi yall, A general question... I would say that the school of Tadayoshi is somewhat classic in many ways. The classic boshi, sugu-ba, yasurime and so on. I came across a (supposed) Shodai MASANAGA/MASAHIRO on Ricecracker today: http://www.ricecracker.com/inventory/it ... ahiro.html Almost 12k with a nice Higo mount. Why is it still not sold? So, what's bugging me? Check out the Nagako and tell me that it is ok with the Suji-Kai/Kiri mix on one side and Kiri stand-alone on the other. Never seen it. Comments? /Martin Quote
Mark Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 I do not know if the mei is genuine, you could ask Mike i am sure he will let you know if the mei is gauranteed. But t o address the question about the yasuri -- the nakago has been shortened and when this was done the mei and yasuri were retained but the other side of the nakago was shaved to to reshape it so the yasuri and from when shortened not original. This practice is quite common Quote
Ray Singer Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 I found this sword back in 2001, had the current restoration done in Japan and owned it for several years before selling it to knowledgeable Hizen-to collector (who had the present koshirae made). The difference in the nakago yasurimei is due to the fact that the sword has been shortened. The kiri yasurimei were done at the time of the suriage/machi-okuri. The sword has NTHK papers from 1993 verifying the work as an authentic shodai Masahiro. Check out the Nagako and tell me that it is ok with the Suji-Kai/Kiri mix on one side and Kiri stand-alone on the other. Never seen it. Quote
