Swords near Koln (Cologne) Germany?

I'll be traveling next month to Koln(Cologne) Germany and was wondering if there were any collectors, museums or shops in the area where I may be able to see swords. If anyone knows of any interesting destinations, please let me know.

yes,there are several collectors in that area-perhaps one of them does read your´s post here and may invite you for an personal meeting?

On specialised shops i can not say-those i do know are rather asian boutiques in Cologne/Düsseldorf/Bonn area-which,but are not very specialised in the blades-thematics.

On Museums-if you do have the time-just make you a nice tripp to the Deutsches Klingenmuseum in Solingen(have an look on the opening times in net-they are online)....thats not directly in Cologne but not far away/and will give you an nice days-tripp,too....

About 130 km from Köln there is "Wiesbaden", were you can visit "Juwelier Strebel" (http://www.juwelier-strebel.de/asien-ku ... atana.html), if iam right :lol: .

I have never been there, but it must be very interesting :D.

They are friendly.

Just you have to call there before.

I have been several times to Juwelier Strebel and they have a very nice exhibit hall down in the basement. The Father was the big collector but the two brothers who took over the business are very friendly. I highly reccomend seeing them. If you are anywhere near Trier you can PM me here and I will show you my modest collection. Also Trier is the oldest city in Germany and one of the most interesting and beautiful places in Europe.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I will only be in Germany for 2 weeks, May 11th to the 25th. I will be flying in and out of Frankfurt but don't know if I will be able to stop at the shop that was mentioned although I will be near by. I may try to stop there during a planned 2 or 3 day trip to... (I don't remember the exact name, but it's the tallest mountain in Germany, on the Austrian border), if my travel partners will allow it. If too many plans haven't already be made, perhaps I can visit some of the suggestions.

if you are around Cologne you might want to check out the Museum of East Asian Art:

They got a few Katana, Armor and other Japanese art objects.

It is a very nice museum.

Hello,

I don't know it (or if they have something Japanese) but the German Blade Museum (http://www.klingenmuseum.de) in Solingen is not so far from Köln (40km northeast)

And the regular NBTHK (European Branch) meetings are often in Bonn (25km south). Maybe someone knows exact dates...
