ububob Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 Does anyone have a reference for Shimosaka Kazunori? I have exhausted my meager library and I'm beginning to wonder if this guy ever existed. Quote
John A Stuart Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 What kanji are used? An Echizen smith? John Quote
ububob Posted December 22, 2010 Author Report Posted December 22, 2010 John, I am in the middle of converting from a PC to a MAC and moving quite a bit of data. The old system had no kanji capability and the new system doesn't have it yet. Hope the photo will help. Quote
John A Stuart Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 下坂一法 Shimosaka Kazunori, for sure. Two that might be using these kanji. One from Musashi no kuni, basically Edo area at Tsushima-jo (castle). 1661 One from Yamashiro. 1652. Neither signed in this way, so, I don't know if they may have relocated from Echizen. Yamashiro is closer to Echizen. I don't think these guys. However that aside, the mei seems to be too fresh for that period. The tagane-makura should have been worn down. I think a latter addition, maybe. ??? John Quote
Grey Doffin Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 No matter who he was, he didn't make it into any of the references in my index. Grey Quote
ububob Posted December 22, 2010 Author Report Posted December 22, 2010 Thanks for your input gentlemen. Sometimes anonymity is a good thing but if the mei has been added why use the signature of an "unknown soldier"? "Is a puzzlement." :? Quote
John A Stuart Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 No worries, Bob. I meant too fresh for the time of the two smiths I mentioned, eliminating them perhaps. John Quote
